I was 14, as 14 was the age you could obtain a legal working permit.  I started out washing dishes for a restaurant and then became a waitress.  I worked my summers to buy my school clothes and stuff.  I enjoyed working and most of my life have loved my jobs.  Now that I'm retired, I still work but now in a different career.  Not really a career, but a way of life. A job that I will never actually retire from.....Clergy.  The pay isn't so great, but the retirement benefits are out of this world.

I don’t remember. I think I was around age 18-19 when I worked part-time during the summer at the central maintenance facility for the MTA (Metro Transportation Authority). It was great to earn some income for myself for the first time and not rely on anyone. Being a college student, some extra $$ does help a lot for other expenses along with the added boost of positive self-esteem. I enjoyed working there.  :)

I was eleven years old when I started babysitting the neighborhood children.
Worked ever since.  Wouldn't have it any other way/I'd be bored silly! ;)

I got my first job when I got out of High School.   I was 19 years old.   I made things and baby sit in high school.  I retired from the first place I worked.  I have worked at other place too but I went back to my old employer and stayed till 2003 when I retired.  I stayed out of work for over a year and could not live on SS so I went to work at Walmart and have been there for almost 7 years.  Hope everyone has a nice day.

14 or 15. I worked at the neighborhood pool.
Me too as a swiim instructor and then the next year as a lifeguard at another pool.  Those were the good old days for sure and 90 cents an hour was really great because I didn't have to pay any bills - it was all mine!

I started babysitting at 13 and got my first full-time job at 17. None of these ever interfered with school or homework.

:) I started working after I when to college.  You sounds like my dad, he did not want his girls working, but I was different with my daugther.  She started working at age 13 (under a work program) but it learned her how to be responsible for the things she wanted.  After a while they start wanting things and to keep from spoiling her rotten we start letting her buy some of those things, so she understands that if you want something you have to work for it because nothing in life is free and there is nothing like having your own money.  It is like the old saying, "Mommy make have, Poppy make have but God bless the child that have his own.  Go ahead let them work, you will be glad you did.

Aside from babysitting part time, I didnt have my first job till I was 19. The problem with that is no one wanted to hire me because I didnt have any experience. But I couldnt get experience because no one would hire me. It was a ficious circle.

My son is only 5. But I figure if he wants a job at 16, I'm going to let him, he has to have a way to make money for the car he will want right?
