Totally OFF-TOPIC But Could Use Advice About Health Insurance
« on: December 27, 2007, 11:27:55 am »
Ok, so Im a stay at home mom mostly........I work part-time outside of the home, but my employer won't provide me with health insurance because I work under 40 hours a week. My husband works as a machinist and his company is small so they can get away with only paying for his health insurance and not his familys. ANYWAY! I went out and got individual health insurance for myself and my daughter from Anthem Blue Cross, but its ridiculus how much we have to pay per month for our premium--$600 a month!! And thats with a $500 deductible per person before they cover anything! Every single insurance company I apply for insurance with, digs and digs into my past (I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant-BUT I had my tubes tied after so I cant get pregnant again anyways so I will never have gestational diabetes again--but that doesnt matter to the insurance companies) and comes up with reasons for either denying me insurance, or accepting me but putting exclusions on my policy and raising the monthly premium beyond belief! So.......my question is this....does anyone know of any companies that offer their part-time employees health benefits?? I know that there are companies out there that do, I just cant find them. OR if anyone has any other suggestion for me, I would greatly appreciate it. I dont want to go back to work full-time at this point....my daughter is still young and I want to enjoy her and be home with her as much as I can!!

Thanks in advance for any advice!

oh do i hear you!

1. I would start with my state gov. I don't know how much income your household has but, is there a way to get atleast your children some good insurance? that would leave only yourself needing indep. coverage, which would hopefully lower you premium. I live in Texas and there is such a thing as the TCHP that many children here apply for. it's not income based, just affordable insurance for children with limited coverage options.

2. Ever consider switching jobs? there are employers out there who will provide coverage for their pt employees.

3. worst case scenerio, pay cash for all dr. visits. can be pricey, i'm sure but, some will give you a steep discount by paying cash upfront. Most doctor offices don't like dealing with insurance companies any more than we do! LOL

3.I would start with the big names, Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, ect.

If i can think of anything else, i'll be sure to post. hope this helps! good luck!

Because I work and my husband works, we dont qualify for Healthy Start for our daughter. Even if I quit, they would tell me my husband makes too much (believe me--HE DOESNT), but you have to be TOTALLY living in a cardboard box before you could qualify with them

Yeah, thats what Ive been trying to do...is find companies that will provide health benefits to part-time employees. I havent had any luck finding any though.

Hey! Thanks for responding with some possible solutions though!

may i ask if your children are school age? i ask because i could direct you to a possible employer that DOES provide insurance. that being said, the job is hard to do if your children are not in school, it was for me anyway.

They are a great alternative to health insurance! You can cover yourself and your child for $29.95 a month! And that includes everything!!!!We do not care about your medical background or any preexisting conditions that you might have! Our company is  a member of the BBB! If you are interested please feel free to contact me at   meganfleming_asi@hotmail.com   or call 336-471-2813 and leave me a message with your name and #! I look forward to hearing from  you!

google "Alpine Access". I worked for them for almost a year, before and during my pregnancy with my second daughter (born in april). I'm still employed by them but kind of "hanging out" until a job opening comes available that fits my new schedual. Anyway, i loved it and just before I left to have the baby, they announced the beginning of medical coverage for even their pt agents. it's 110% legit and has been noted on GMA and other national programs. Good luck!

yeah, its looking like that company is looking for people to work from like 3:00-10:00pm and they want 30 hours a week out of you. Thats more hours then I am currently working outside of the house. AND those hours would be a rough time period for me to have to work. My daughters daycare closes at 6:00pm, and my husband goes to school a few nights a week, so those hours wouldnt work for me. BUT i am bookmarking the site and at some point may consider looking further into it. Thanks for the info!

i'm not sure what state your in. but yes like i read check into state funds... i know in pa. if you go tru the walfare office.. or CHIP all children no matter how much you make. get insurenace untill they turn 21. and it covers everything. as far as the alduts they have things also. but depending on what you make you may have to pay monthly also.. btu i know it's alotttt cheaper then what you are paying now. no matter your health history
