yeah, but heres the thing with that.........i would have to take my kid to daycare during my working shift at home. you need to have a quiet, professional enviroment while working (it specifically says that!) and how is that possible with a 2 year old running around the house like a maniac demanding your full attention the whole time you are supposed to be working?

Ok, so Im a stay at home mom mostly........I work part-time outside of the home, but my employer won't provide me with health insurance because I work under 40 hours a week. My husband works as a machinist and his company is small so they can get away with only paying for his health insurance and not his familys. ANYWAY! I went out and got individual health insurance for myself and my daughter from Anthem Blue Cross, but its ridiculus how much we have to pay per month for our premium--$600 a month!! And thats with a $500 deductible per person before they cover anything! Every single insurance company I apply for insurance with, digs and digs into my past (I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant-BUT I had my tubes tied after so I cant get pregnant again anyways so I will never have gestational diabetes again--but that doesnt matter to the insurance companies) and comes up with reasons for either denying me insurance, or accepting me but putting exclusions on my policy and raising the monthly premium beyond belief! So.......my question is this....does anyone know of any companies that offer their part-time employees health benefits?? I know that there are companies out there that do, I just cant find them. OR if anyone has any other suggestion for me, I would greatly appreciate it. I dont want to go back to work full-time at this point....my daughter is still young and I want to enjoy her and be home with her as much as I can!!

Thanks in advance for any advice!

i'm not sure what state your in. but yes like i read check into state funds... i know in pa. if you go tru the walfare office.. or CHIP all children no matter how much you make. get insurenace untill they turn 21. and it covers everything. as far as the alduts they have things also. but depending on what you make you may have to pay monthly also.. btu i know it's alotttt cheaper then what you are paying now. no matter your health history

i think i posted this already....but we dont qualify for welfare of any kind. even when it was just my husband working they wouldnt give me a dime or help me with my health insurance, so going for state funds isnt the answer. i just can not find affordable comprehensive health care anywhere. yeah, i could do a discount plan, but then what if someone ends up in the hospital? they would make me sell my house to pay my bills.

here is what the great state of ohio has to offer us:

For families between 151% - 200% of the federal poverty level (FPL)

Available to children up to age 19
Cannot have health insurance. Health insurance is defined as having health insurance that covers BOTH inpatient hospitalization and physician coverage - regardless of premiums, deductible and co-payments.

Must reapply every 12 months - income changes may affect eligibility status.

 Family Size Annual Income
1 $17,960
2 $24,240
3 $30,520 ---husband makes more than that-but has child support taken out every week
4 $36,800
5 $43,080

For families up to 150% FPL

Available to children up to age 19 and pregnant women

Health insurance from another carrier does NOT affect eligibility

Pregnant women are eligible during the entire pregnancy up to 60 days after the baby is born.
Babies born to a mother on Healthy Start are automatically eligible for free health coverage for 1 full year.

Must reapply for coverage every 12 months - income changes may affect eligibility status.

 Family Size Annual Income
1 $13,470
2 $18,180
3 $22,890 ---husband makes more than that (but again, he pays child support)
4 $27,600
5 $32,310

What the great state of Ohio doesnt take into consideration is that people have mortgages ($800 a month), property taxes, ($3600 a year) monthly utility bills, weekly child support, various insurances (house, car) food, children that live with us to support, etc......all of which a $35,000 a year job cant even pay for. So according to them--we are rich and undeserving of health insurance coverage.

I TOTALLY understand where you're coming from.  It is BEYOND frustrating that the state doesn't take your bills into consideration.  I'm not saying they should look at things like cable or credit card bills, but they should definitely factor in rent and utilities if nothing else!

I used to be a single mom and daycare for my son was $160 a WEEK.  I only brought home like $700 per paycheck, but according to the state (washington), I made too much money by FIVE DOLLARS per paycheck!  If I would have only made a few dollars less each paycheck, they would have COMPLETELY paid for my childcare.  So I asked my employer to give me a pay DECREASE and they said no!!

I totally could not win!  I almost had to quit my job because I couldn't AFFORD to work!  (see, i'm getting all upset by it all over again, because it just isn't fair!).

My dad always says that almost the only way to get help from state programs is by cheating them.  (He would never do that, and neither would I)...but it seems SO many that abuse those programs are the only ones getting anything from them.

And the people who REALLY need the help are just out of luck.

Yeah, I know what you mean! You are totally right when you say that the only way to get anywhere is to cheat, but even if I were like that, I could never get away with it....
I know a number of people that are cheating welfare in various ways and have been for years and have yet to get caught. Believe me, if I tried anything like that, they would nail my  :bootyshake: to the wall and put me away for life.

Yep I agree.  It's very disheartening.  It's very hard to get ahead in life....

Just flipping through my new Parenting magazine and there's an article that made me think of you. There's a foundation that can guide you to attain affordable insurance wether you're high risk or not. it says to call 800-234-1317, you can also go to coverageforall.com. (it's ok to post that website address right? :-)

I came on to this late but after reading what you said about insurance I can understand. In Kentucky I can get state insurance for my child, but I can't get insurance for myself from the state for one I did work and was not (get this) going to have baby. That would be only way I could get insurance from the state no job or pregnant. So I found a better way to get insurance. Now this is not really insurance but a discount on when I go to the doctor or need to get a prescription filled it does help in the long run. Funny part I get 100% back if I am not happy with it and for less then $20 a month I get Dental, vision, prescriptions, and get my back worked on. And this covers a whole family for less then $20 month. They do have other plans that have more coverage if it is needed and the price is different.

Edit: You may post the URL to the site here.

i live in pa. we do get help as far as food stamps from the state and the kids have coverage. thank god! but... no for me and hubby, no cash help, and not very much help with childcare ether. i just started back to work part time at walmart to help hubby with everything... he makes after taxes about 900.00 a month. there is us and 4 kids... my youngest is just turning 5 months. so i was listed as except from having to work till he's 6 months. from the walfare office... but yet with 6 people in the house.. one in school ,rent being 550.00 and month. gas 150.0 and elc 120.00 just them alone. not to count school clothes n supplies, phone, diapers, wipes, cleaning things , soap and so on... they say he makes almost 150.00 to much for us to get coverage or any cash help. and 100.00 to much for them to pay full childcare.... now with rent gas n elc alone being 820.00 leaving us with 80 bucks in our pocket if we had no other bills... how do they think that is enough for 6 people to live on? the state systems are totaly messed up! and i know what you mean about cheating to. my bro gets an ssi check ( well working on the side under the table ) get food stamps and cash from the walfare office and has their childcare fully paid for. she works full time... he's supposlty sitting home on ssi.. why would they even pay childcare or need it?, they lied about everything. i even turned them in!  yet somehow... they are still getting it. as it was said up top.... if i would ever be so in need to cheat to do it i would be in jail for life! they would lock me up takin right from the walfare office. but yet people like my bro get away with it.... funniest parts.... she makes 1200 a month working fulltime.... he gets 679.00 a month from ssi, makes about 800 amonth on the side.. n her mom gets paid the child care... 1200 a month for the 2 kids... when she lives with them! and she gets foodstamps to living with them. ... funny how this world works. guess some of us should just learn to suffer n get over it :(  you know it's sad when you have to go back to work and can't even watch your baby grow up the 1st 6 months to a year of their life before anymore, because you can't get no help from the people who are supposed to be there for just that. to help you!

wow joclt22, im so sorry to hear your struggling as well, and i really need to shut my mouth after reading your post because it really sounds like you are having more troubles than i am. as far as what you said about your brother scamming social security and such........i also know someone that does that. its amazing what some people can get away with! the people that REALLY need it can never get it, but those that dont always seem to find away around it and get what they need to survive. its total  :bs:

yep. it's crazy what they get away with. my bro also was really into drugs.... he stopped that. thank god. but when he was doing and selling them..... the cops were the ones buying from him! like omg how can you be so lucky! in the since he had no chance of being busted as just about every signle cop bought them n did them with him and the ones that did'nt would'nt ever do anything because of what the otehr cops would do to them. this is just a crazy world. so i just try to make the best of it. as long as i have my family n were all healthy... i say forget the state, walfare and all that! they can kiss my bum bum lol
