Tax form question.
« on: April 03, 2010, 01:02:53 am »
Guys, I've already submitted a support ticket for the following question but I'd figure perhaps I would get a quicker response here from the general public if I post here, if this is ok with the admin.

FusionCash, IIRC, mailed me only the "Recipient" copy for the 1099-misc tax form. There was no "IRS/government" copy for the 1099-misc tax form. Is it ok if I send a copy of the form that FusionCash mailed to me to the IRS or should I have FusionCash mail me the "IRS/government" copy of the form so I can mail it in?

Thanks.

You do not need to attach 1099s to your return. Only W-2s.

If you are filing taxes online then you need not send any paperwork as long as you can verify your last year's Adjusted Gross Income. Most free website will ask you to enter the last year's AGI on the pin verification and then it is electronically sent to the government. No other mail in paperwork needed at all.
If you are mailing in the return, you should make a copy of the 1099 (even if it saids receipient copy) and attach with the form 1040 and W2's. This will save time for the reviewer so you can get your refund quicker.
I hope this helps.

Thanks. I'm mailing my state tax return. I've already received my federal tax refund.

We are only supposed to send you the recipient copy of the 1099-MISC.  It's informative and for you -- you are not required to attach a copy to your return, like you do with a W-2.

The data on the form was electronically transmitted to the IRS on 1/31, so they are already "expecting" you to claim that income on your return (whether you attach a copy of the 1099 or not)

Thanks. That was helpful.
