O.K almost a year latewr still no job appling same place as my 20 year old sons freinds they are getting the jobs i`m being denied do you think that is prejudice or what?

What types of jobs are these?  If you are really serious about finding employment you need to get better skills.  What kinds of places are you applying to?  If there is a community college or state employment center near you, you should make an appointment with a career counselor to talk about what kind of jobs you have an aptitude for.  I'd also brush up on writing and grammar skills especially.  If you can't write a decent sentence, present a proper resume, cover letter or fill out an application without having a ton of grammar errors you're not going to get any call backs.

When I was out of work one time, I went to all the contracting companies, and they put me to work on Temp. positions.  These can last anywhere from a week to years.  I worked one Gov't. contract job for 4 years.  They usually pay better than most typical jobs.  I made almost $17 an hour doing clerical work (14 years ago).  You can find them under contract labor in the yellow pages.  There's better chance in a larger city or town landing these positions.  I just read that the extended benefits have been approved for those out of work.  I'm glad for the people who desperately need these benefits to put food on the table for their families.  I'm retired and drawing a pension.  I would hate to have to look for a job in this economy.  Also, after you reach a certain age (50?), is seems that employers want someone younger that will "grow" with the company, and older workers are passed over.  Seems they would want to hire someone with experience.  My prayers are with those looking for work......it's tough in this economy. :(

My wife is having the same problem, she is currently unemployed and having a really hard time finding employment again. She looks everywhere but she is either overqualified or underqualified or never hears back from anywhere. It is a hard time for many people out there right now, its the best time to just be thankful for what we have and try to make it. Good luck to everyone else out there struggling!

I made enough money in my youth to retire early (48).  My income is adequate, nothing spectacular.  I get extra funds for doing some preaching here and there.  Also on sites like FC, etc.  I would be trying to find a job now like everyone else.  I pray for those with families who have to put bread on the table.  This is the worse I've seen our economy.  When the CPI (Consumer Price Index) doesn't rise, people think that's a good thing, and some things cost less.  I have to tell you, if that CPI doesn't rise, were in real trouble.  It could spiral into a bad depression.  Our economy is built on such fragile stair steps, and if the Gov't does one stimulation to the economy one way or the other....we're in real trouble.

That's why everyone on SSI doesn't get a COLA raise.  Their raises are based on the CPI.  Only thing is, things like raising rent prices, utility prices, food prices, aren't factored in the CPI......only purchasing power. ???  So when the CPI is low, it shows an (unreliable I might add) increase in purchasing power for everyone.  Therefore, seniors purchasing power looks good.  Reality is, they are getting poorer and poorer because they can't afford the necessities of life that sustain life.

Who ever thought up this cocka maimy system is an idiot.  There, I've said it!!!!!!!
