Broadband vrs DSL vrs Dial-up

I'm probably one of the few that still uses Dial-up for internet access, but it's been working fine for me until the recently.  So I'm exploring the advantages of Broadband (cable) and DSL (phone company).

Would like your comments about the success/problems you've had with your connection provider and any suggestions you might have as to which way I should go.

What I know so far:  the cheapest prices I've see quotes are $19.95/mo for DSL (+taxes & fees) and @25.99 for Broadband (+taxes & Fees) for the lowest download speed.  Much higher costs/mo for faster connections.

Since I'm getting dial-up for about $17/mo incl t&f, I'm not too thrilled about changing.  But I know the connection speed will be significantly improved (by comparison) even at 1mbps.

I've had cable and DSL and haven't had any problems with either.  To me there was no difference in connection speed with either.

i have dsl my self i have good luck with it .but if u can afford cabal broadband it is. a lot faster  than dsl is my friend oldbuddy has broad band cable it is a lot faster than dsl.

I have dsl with my phone company with very few problems so far have had over 3 years use to have dial-up and dsl is much faster.if you download videos dsl works ok

Cable is way better.  DSL is slower, though cable and dsl do keep increasing speeds to the point where there isnt much difference.  My personal experience with DSL was horrible because I couldnt get it to work with a wireless home network.

Cable Broadband is getting faster and faster, Comcast (Cable) has a 100MB's Plan where i live and ATT (DSL) has a 18MB's plan

DSL is typically slower.  I use cable broadband...the only thing I loathe is that I have to pay for cable tv that I don't want in order to have the broadband internet access...

I have had cable from Comcast and up until yesterday, only had Internet and not TV or Phone. I added the TV yesterday because they gave us a deal for a year with NO contract, so we can switch at any time. I have also had dial up and DSL and there is no comparison, cable is much faster and more reliable. Since I make money online, the $50 bill is no problem.

I have cable from Comcast so I'll start with them and see what I can get.  Have Verizon for my phone company.  Might try them both and see which one can get the stuff install first.

Glad to hear, tho, that there were few problems and things are working well.

I HAVE BEEN ALWAYS HAD COMCAST SERVICE, WHICH I WAS HAPPY... BUT THEN SINCE I MOVED TO SC  I GOT TIME WARNER CABLE AND INTERNET... I DON'T REALLY LIKE THE CABLE SO MUCH. IT'S DIFFERENT AND THEY SOLD ME 300 CHANNELS WHICH I CAN ONLY SEE MAYBE 100 BECAUSE THE OTHERS ARE THE SAME ONLY IN HD.  LIKE YOU SEE I'M NO REALLY HAPPY WITH THIS COMPANY

I switched from dial up to cable a number of years ago and found that the cable has been very reliable, quick and from what I hear less expensive than DSL. I also have been told that DSL is not as fast as cable. I also understand that DSL may not be available in all areas and may be slower further from the source. I have not heard the same for cable service.

I would just like to let you know that you can get a much cheaper price for Dial up threw LocalNet, I used to use them for my internet until just recently when I switched to DSL.
Their Dial up costs $9.95 per month at 56kbs, and you can also purchase the Web Accelerator for $3.00 extra each month, with the Web Accelerator my average download speed was 230kps. So my total bill each month was only $13.95 per month.

I just recently got rid of dial up and I AM SO GLAD.  Dial up was driving me crazy.  I ended up getting a modem card through my cell phone company and I love it.  I have internet everywhere I go, as long as I take my laptop.  It is great.

I'd recommend broadband...any way to improve connection is a plus...and if there's a way to have phone/internet/tv on one plan/service, go for it, makes it easier...I've had Charter for years, and its worked out well...

i have satelite broadband , and i hate it  because you are under a fair access policy, but where i live it is either satelite or dial up, and dial up is the worst.
