Embedded ads on FC

I don't know if you guys have noticed, or maybe I've been living under a rock and only now have noticed embedded ads all around the FC site. I saw them in the forums, and I have noticed numerous pop up ads too. Is it just me or is everyone else experiencing this.

Ok, if you read through some of the forums some of the words are underlined in green and if you put your mouse on that word an ad pops up. I was reading one of the unemployed forums and found some of the words underlined in green and when I put my mouse on them an ad appeared. I also noticed it in my account page too.

I've never seen these. Can you tell us what threads you're talking about. These would probably be against the forum rules and would likely get a poster banned, especially if they do it alot.

Ok, if you read through some of the forums some of the words are underlined in green and if you put your mouse on that word an ad pops up. I was reading one of the unemployed forums and found some of the words underlined in green and when I put my mouse on them an ad appeared. I also noticed it in my account page too.

It sounds like you have some kind of ad program which is reading the content of pages you visit and turning keywords into ad links.  There are no such ads as you describe on our site.  You can try Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to remove it: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php (free download)

I know what you are talking about I downloaded something on one of these sites that did that to me, I uninstalled it and it quit cant remeber the exact program though. Maybe Upromise if thats something you dowloaded recently. I do remember it came with a toolbar and even after I took off the toolbar things were still green and underlined. Just unistall it.

I ran my Norton antivirus software and you know what? It was some kind of malware that was doing this. Thank you so much for helping me with this.......your advice has helped me fix this problem. I though for a moment I was going insane or something, or maybe FC started something new.

I think the last thing I installed was a game from one of the special offers here, and of course I have removed it because I think maybe thats where the malware came from as I did not have this problem before I downloaded the game. I try so hard to be careful about what I download, but sometimes it's hard to know what to trust these days.

Thats it Gamevance, the malware came from that program. You know what? I am not going to download any more programs from those offers or any offer for that matter. I will play it safe from now on. It's a lesson learned.
