Tuition increases at Universities?

I have been attending college for four years now and every place I have attended does a tuition increase every year because they state that is the only way they can keep the university in tact. I believe that there are other ways such as choosing important extracurriculars to support. All universities don't realize many students drop out and leave college because they can't afford the tuition. Many students are taking out loans, and they aren't able to work due to lack of transportation. Should there be a yearly tuition increase at universities, or should they better budget their facilities and programs?

Idk. I pay 1685 a class to attend an online private college. and ill have about 55,000 to pay back before all the interest applies to my loans. Loans arent a bad thing they help students get an education.

I'm so glad I was able to get out without any student loans.  It's ridiculous.  They keep raising costs but you aren't getting any more bang for your buck are you?

My girlfriend (whose dorm room I'm sitting in right now) says: The increase of tuition yearly is ridiculous. Why pay an increase in the same exact class that was taught the year before for a lower price?  Tuition is already way too high, on top of the books and cost of living per year. The campus I am currently on, raises the tuition and then uses that money to build more housing for more students to pay more tuiton.  And I don't know about most colleges, but my experience here is that I learn more from reading the book assignments more than I actually do in class. So why am I paying for tuition when I am teaching myself the material?

I agree why we are paying higher rates...when they should actually take the thousands of staff members and make them teach multiple classes, and student loans are harder to obtain with the recession.

I think this is just one of the areas where costs have increased and these costs have been passed on to the consumers, instead of the companies just tightening their belts a little and taking less profits. also, with more and more government grants available, I think the colleges want to get as much money out of the government as possible. They never think of the people that actually have to pay for their education.

no one says you have to go to a university to be smart - some of the most successful people are self taught - the university knowledge is not about what you learn but that you learn how to learn - even in law school they tell you you're not going to learn law but learn how to repute the law

To me its a sorry excuse of any kind to rase em , yes if the campus needs it , but at least see where the money goes , Seems like when they raise the tution every year , the campus gets a new gym , or new frat houses , or a new colliseum .....Tution hike = Nothing but a harsh joke

WOW thats a lot. I agree about loans being a good thing until/unless they get out of school and are unable to repay them (personal expierence).

It's not just the Universities the Community Colleges are doing it too.

I go a major 4-year school where the tuition is $52,000/yr. The tuition does continue to go up each year, and I think that's fine. It's a research university, so the money goes toward funding the research projects that make the school so famous and allow new technologies to be developed.
