wisdom teeth
« on: February 07, 2010, 01:21:09 pm »
I got my bottom wisdom teeth out about 3 weeks ago. The were horizontal so I was put under and they were cut out. Now my jaw hurts on one side. It is tender to the touch and hurts right under where my tooth was. The tenderness continues underneath by my throat. Has anyone had this happen before? Could it be infected? Is it normal for it to be sore like this? I don't know what is normal. I might call my dentist this week to find out, but since it is Sunday I thought I would find out if anyone had any suggestions here first.

I honestly don't know anything about it but 3 weeks later seems a long time to still be tender to the touch....sounds like it may be an infection or it could just be taking it's time healing.  I'd call the doc/dentist just in case, better to be safe then sorry.

I agree with Kymberli--3 weeks is a long time to still be feeling that way!  Most oral surgeons have you schedule a follow-up appointment within a couple weeks of the extraction to address these types of concerns.  A friend of mine had similar symptoms (with actual external bruising down his neck) that was an infection.  I would clear my schedule for tomorrow and call first thing in the morning.

The weird thing about me is I have never had my wisdom teeth pulled they actually went back into my gum and I was written a priscription of vicodin for the pain. Weird huh?

i had all 4 of mine removed when I was put under-- I don't think 3 weeks is unusual to still feel pain.

Had all 4 of mine pulled in one shot too...

Pain lasted for an entire month. You should call though to be sure, don't risk an infection.

I am not sure if it was from my wisdom teeth now because I found out I have strep throat and it is feeling a lot better since I started antibiotics. I suppose it could have been an infection and the antibiotics are taking care of that as well as my strep. Thank you all for your advice, it is greatly appreciated!!
