What is your stand on human cloning? (research for class)

I'm conducting research for a class experiment, and the topic is "people's views on human cloning".  Your feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds absurd to me but have never truly looked into it.

well, I agree with it being absurd.  However, i do have a little knowledge on the subject and it is very dangerous..  It has previously been tested on animals and more animals die than live sooo... i'm all for not allowing human cloning anytime soon

I don't think its evolved enough at the current level for most people to form a solid opinion.  Plus you have those movies that question the humanity of clones - are they individuals, do they have rights?  I like the idea of it if we can clone human organs and other vital body parts instead of holding people on waiting lists and waiting for people to die to get the organs.  That way you dont have the human personal dilemma but its helps people survive.

I agree, if cloning can help we should do it. Like everything else, checks and balances are needed to stop the crazies from taking it to far.

People should not be playing God! These people are created without a God and therefore have no SOUL. It might usher in the end of the World and these will be bodies the Devil wil control, they may not even have a conscience.

See, I hate it when people say that. Have you put any thought into this?
My ex when we discussed this mentioned the same argument (also used this with robots, although Data probably was granted a soul ::) )

But then again, I'm a natural clone. Oh, and an atheist. So I think it's retarded to even bring up.

Personally, I don't think it will ever be used to clone people - not because they won't have a conscience or whatever, especially since that's more taught not inborn - there's just way easier reproductive tech and what's the point with over how many billions of people in the world?
lol Also just thinking it makes me think "would a king or company head use it as a form of immortality?" lol maybe if you could transplant brains :P

If you could clone organs, sure, definitely.
Though that makes me think of cloning perfect cuts of meat, and wouldn't PETA be happy then? ;)

I've no problem with cloning being used and continuing to progress.

By the way, it's not like every egg is used (or even gets fertilized) when you go for invitro fertilization (unless your the Octo mom and don't want the extras flushed and lucky enough to have them all take lol).
So the "more animals die than live" argument doesn't hold water for me. So what, ya know? So you have to do it a few times, my brother and his wife spent years trying for a baby "the natural way" before my nephew finally came along. ::)

I remember there was a Texas company I looked up a few years ago, was offering cow (I think around 50k but don't quote me), pig (20k? Maybe?), and horse (100k fairly sure on this one) cloning. Quite a bargain, considering some of their customers were million dollar race winners and prize studs worth ten times the amount.
Though I guess that's a pretty frivolous use. :P

Oh, by the way? If we were cloning full people, hypothetically, I say they are issued their own birth certificate and name, just like any other brat, and they have all rights granted in their country. Duh. I don't understand the other side to this argument.

Please keep your religion at least 100 feet away from my science.

As for the original question, I think the REAL question is...Why would we want to clone an entire human being?  The world is already overpopulated enough.

Also, I think a lot of people misunderstand the way cloning works.  When animals are cloned, the clone doesn't come out to be the same age as the original.  Instead, the DNA from an egg cell is removed and replaced with the DNA from an adult, and then the egg is implanted into a surrogate mother, who then gives birth to a baby who is a clone of the original.

Knowing this, there's no real reason to clone an entire human besides saying "Hey!  We did it!" except for the possibility of other breakthroughs in research that come as a result.  However, what WOULD be nice to do would be to clone a single organ.  Wouldn't it be nice to be able to clone lungs, hearts, kidneys, livers, etc. so that the people that need transplants could get one more easily and not have to wait for a donor?

I think there is enough "reproduction" going on in this world for us to be resorting or even experimenting with cloning.  Don't fix it if it aint broken!!

I don't agree with it.  I'm not religious but I will agree that it's playing God or messing with nature whatever you want to call it.  What purpose would we really need a cloned human when people can just give birth to more the way they've been doing for millions of years.

I don't think human cloning is anything that we need to be doing.  Just a little weird if you ask me.

The animals that do live have a shorter life expectancy, if a family were to lose a child I feel it would be a sick joke to give them their kid back only to watch it die again in their lifetime, that to me just seems to painful, once is enough.

My stand on human cloning is simple, don't do it!  It really bothers me when people have to mess with nature.  Just let the world be!  It all boils down to that one thing......MONEY!
