What religion are you?
« on: January 23, 2010, 05:19:14 pm »
I find religion / spirituality a very interesting subject but often controversial.  I love to learn about different faiths.  I am Jewish and consider that to be my religion.  I attend Jewish religious services on an occasional basis.  But I also study and enjoy other faiths.  I have been studying Buddhism and go to a Buddhist Center near my house on an occasional basis.  Most of the adults at my Buddhist Center were raised either Jewish or Christian.  Most of their families are still Jewish or Christian.  I have some friends who are still in the same religion as they were born into but I also have many friends who were born into one religion but have chosen another religion.  So what religion were your born into?  And what religion are you now or do you consider yourself to be?    :angel11:

Jehovah's witnesses, although i;m not baptized i've been studying with them for over a decade(born into it).  Question christians should ask themselves why is god's name written only 2 to 3 times in most translations when it occurs THOUSANDS OF TIMES.

I've dropped religion from my life and replaced it with spirituality. Less bigotry and prejudices, you see. Might not go to "heaven" but at least I'm no snob.

There is no such thing as an Native American religion, with the possible exception of the Native American Church(N.A.C.) which is very contemporary and was originally and often still is based on some christian doctrines.

Any of these  nu-age belief systems are not only not honoring the Ancestors, in my opinion make a down right mockery of sacrifices made by the Elders while protecting and preserving the old ways.

If it ain't broke...don't fix it, our Spirituality has worked very well for us for untold thousands of years.
If it has been effective that long....it's plenty good enough for me!

I'm a Christian. I recently lost my way. But the Baptist church is helping me get back on track. And for that I am very grateful.

I agree with you on this point. I was brought up to be Christian but we were not strict at all. I found it appalling the number of people who went to church and were texting or playing video games on their phones. It is definitely not what it used to be. People today don't realize what their ancestors went through for them to even be able to practice their own religions. I really think it's pathetic. Obviously this isn't the case for everyone, but it is true for a startling number of people.  Nowadays, I prefer to be spiritual rather than religious. I am a scientist and I just can't bring myself to believe many things in the Bible. I like the cohesion of religious groups, but I like to believe what I think is right. If there's something that doesn't settle right with me, why should I blindingly believe it? I think that the morals are the best teachings of religion but I prefer to 'worship' in my own way, much of which has to do with thanking those that came before me and made it possible for me to be doing what I'm doing.

i was raised christian but after many prayers all which were unanswered i no longer believe in it.
i am more on the wiccan side. it makes alot more sense to me and i feel lot better.
also i am 1/2 native american and wiccan is the closest that comes to their spiritual beliefs.

I don't label myself.  I'm spiritual but don't belong to a specific religion.  I believe in a God.

I was raised Catholic but I don't associate myself with any religion now. I still believe in God though.

I was raised as a Christian and, God willing, I will die as a Christian. My faith has grown stronger through the years and has been a lifeline for me on many occassions. I vividly recall how my mother was comforted by our pastor and fellow church members on the passing of my brother by drowning when he was only 15 years old. I pray that my faith in God continues to grow daily. HE has never failed me. Prayer is the way to talk with God but unanswered prayer is often the way God talks with HIS flock.
