Are you using the html tags? Secondly, you need to ensure you're entering the code in a section that accepts HTML code.

When I was working on websites I used to code exlcusively in HTML through Notepad. Is this what you're doing, or are you using some WYSIWIG (google if unfamiliar) to make it?

It depends what website you are using. Some Website Builders do not accept html. If your website builder does not appear to, you can probably find a website html widget.
