How do you select what they watch?

I have a problem with movie ratings. Some movies say they are pg13 but I would not let my 13 yr old watch that. How can it be ok for a 13 yr old to watch people having sex. I don't care if they are not nude. I think to me the sounds are more offensive the the actual "nudity". Like the movie that movie "WANTED" WITH Angelina Jolie It is a good movie but right the beginning there is sex and you can see the guys butt lol. I don't think that is appropriate for my kids to watch with me no matter ow old they are. I think the rating for that movie is R tho so it probably is not the best example. But what do you think? Do you agree with the ratings for your kids?

I agree movie ratings are not that helpful. I try to check out a family website that does movie reviews such as Focus on the Family that will tell you how "family friendly" it is and why they rated it that way. They are an ultra conservative organization, so probably won't review many movies you are interested in, but there are probably others that can help.

Thanks for the tip. I am getting tired of my kids having to look away and me making noise when a "bad" part comes up so they wont hear all the moaning lol

I wouldn't be so worried. If they arn't exposed to sexuality when they're watching it with you, they will or most likely already have been exposed in many places, kids talk about sex at school all the time. sex jokes are the most common. I'd just stop worrying about it if I were you. But of course its your choice.

I am not worried about them knowing about sex it's just uncomfortable to sit there looking at these scenes with them you know. I can answer any questions they may have about sex no problem. But some movies are just so raw I feel like I am watching *bleep* with my teen girls and that just ain't right lol

i have a 4 year old, and of course i do NOT let her watch anything with sex in it...evn if there kissing i still dont let her watch cuz she doesnt need to learn all that now lol. she watches disney movies mostly or noggin the t.v show...thats about it....

My 19 year old, however, she didn't watch it unless I saw it first, or one of my friends had seen it and told me about the content.

Haha!! I do the same I always ask my friends If there was any dirty scenes lol.. Btw the Movie rating was actually "r" so it might have been appropriately rated but it didn't say R for what lol... Anywho i watched it alone and it is a very good movie.

It sounds like you can only let your kids watch PG.  I understand the ratings and censoring, but I think it should be up to the parents to watch a movie and decide if their kids can handle the content.  I am tired of parents complaining about the ratings and content of a movie they havent watched but let their kids watch.  I realize time is precious, but maybe, as a parent, you should know what your child is watching before you get mad and assume the rating is legite enough to judge what your kid can watch.  Its my policy on everything, do not judge something unless you have experience on that subject.

I mean, seriously, would you really think that because a 16 or 17 year old could handle a sex scene, does that mean that they could have or should have been exposed to it when they were 5? I'm not saying you should throw your kids in front of *bleep*.  But, by the time they decide to watch movies or change the channel I think they can figure out what to watch.  I saw plenty when I was a kid and it didn't screw me over as it supposedly should.  Sure I've seen a few things that I regret like Chucky, It, etc. but they didn't do more than scare me and teach me that I'm not interested in Scary movies.  As for actual movies that had sex scenes in them, which I saw, didn't do much because I can't remember anything specific.  As for being inappropriate my question is why is it inappropriate for say... a 10 year old to not see a little bit of intimacy and not a 16 year old.  Age?  Maturity?  I think by now we can say that age doesn't always bring wisdom and maturity doesn't come unless they're world has been expanded.

I think 13 year olds are the ones that need *bleep* the most.
18 is about the minimum age where you really don't need it any more.
