good age difference for children
« on: December 18, 2009, 05:26:21 am »
Ok... I have one son -- a little over 2 years old.  We want another baby but my husband and I can not agree on WHEN we should have the 2nd child.  I want them to be close enough in age where they can play together and support each other when life gets crazy in the future.

Anyone have opinions on what is a good age difference among siblings?

I would say two years is pretty good. My oldest brother is 4 years apart from me and my second oldest is 2 years older then me. I'm much closer to my second brother. But that could be completely different for you. I'm pretty sure no matter what age they are your children will play together and support each other. That's what having a sibling is all about.

Two years is a good age difference between kids. Although mine is a year a month and a day! My babies are 4 and 5

In my experience, my husband and I had this same problem with agreeing to an age to have a second child. Now, our first baby is 6 and we have had issues trying to get pregnant. I am 25, he is 33... getting pregnant should not have to take many years- but we are still trying. Basically what I am saying is, maybe it is best to just let what will happen on it's own happen? That way you are not disappointed if possibly it takes a bit longer.

However, I have a girlfriend who had her baby right after getting off birth-control. Everyone is different.
Good luck!

Oh, both myself and my husband come from huge families. I agree with the last person. My husband and his brother are 12 years apart and you would think they were only a few years. Your children will have a relationship, especially if it is made a priority in your home.

we got pregnant easily the first time around with very little effort; however I am so fearful of that not happenning again.  My husband is not ready to just say "whatever happens happens" so we still have preventative measures in place.

I think 3 years apart is a good age difference, I've had 5 children

I have 2 children my elder one is 3 years and 4 months and my younger one is 3 months and 2 weeks so the difference between them is 3 years and I think this is the best they are close to each other agewise and for you the first one is less dependant on you than before so you'll have a good energy for the second one who needs most of your time

Two or three years seems ideal.

Two seems to work well, I'm a daughter of four. My older sister is 2 ahead, younger sister is 2 below, and my youngest sister is 5 below.
