uhh not at all.  If he was just an average person, he wouldn't have gotten the length of sentence he did.  He was crucified for his actions, and in this scenario it was mostly because he was a celebrity.

Seriously, no. The only reason he received so much trouble was because he was a celebrity. I'm not trying to justify what he did was right in social standards but the fact of the matter is if it was some random dude off the street doing it, would it have caused this much publicity? Do they even have laws for animal rights?

Short answer: I'm pretty sure.

But if my memory serves me correct, Vick was never convicted on animal abuse charges or anything similar.  I don't feel like looking it up, but I think he was convicted more on the basis of the gambling aspect and something about transferring [something] across state lines (my details are astounding aren't they!).  I'm sure you could find the answers pretty easily, I just don't feel like it
