Holiday Season...is it just me?
« on: November 13, 2007, 03:48:23 pm »
Is it just me or does it seem like Christmas advertising and decorating is occurring earlier and earlier every year?  My local Walmart had decorations up before Halloween.  Next year its going to be after Labor Day!

Actually the Walgreens in my neighborhood was faster than Wal-Mart.  They were putting Christmas merchandise up on the top shelves while Halloween was being stocked on the regular sales shelves - and that was September!!!!

The Wal Mart here stocks Christmas items well before Halloween ever arrives.
I went into Wal Mart the other day to find something nice for my table for Thanksgiving. A centerpiece. Thank goodness I am into crafts and could make one myself from just visiting their crafts department as all I could find were Christmas decorations, etc.
The outspoken person I am, I found an employee and said, "why don't we just bypass all other Holidays and make it Christmas year round!"
She looked at me dumbfounded, of course.
It's pretty sad that the time of year that is to be a time for Thankfulness and togetherness is not so popular anymore in the retail industry.
Christmas is a great time of year too, don't get me wrong. But I think it has become too commercialized and has lost it's true meaning due to retail outlets and the makers of products. :bs:
Very sad indeed!

I agree with you Mysted Moon.  I went into Walmart to get a Thanksgiving wreath or something festive to decorate with and was surrounded by Christmas.  Christmas is my favorite time of year, but sometimes I think it is way too commercialized.  I guess Charlie Brown was right  ;)

I've always felt that the "true meaning" of Christmas has always been monopolized by merchants.
This is why the "true spirit of Christmas" isn't easy to maintain throughout the holiday.
We have to capture "Christmas" in our own spirit first.
Because many aspects of our society seems to have taken: Our "Christ" out of "CHRISTmas," long ago.  :angel12:

I like Christmas but it seems like the stores put the Christmas decorations out with the Halloween stuff. That's all you see now in stores and some people have already decorated inside and outside with their lights and trees. It's not even Thanksgiving yet...it seems that Christmas starts too soon. It is very commercialized.
