so, what is a tamale - ta = the and male = male or bad - so are tamales only for males or something that is bad for you - IMHO >> In My Humble Opinion - The MUSEUM, Zazzle, deviantART, ArtFire, FineArtAmerica

my grandmother, 2 aunts, my dad, and myself used to have a tamale party every year the weekend before christmas. we'd sit down for hours just making tamales while we talked and drank wine- apple cider for me. then my garndmother passed away and my aunts moved out of state.  :(  i tried to continue the tradition with my siblings but they did not enjoy the long process... though they never minded eating the end result. :)  luckily, i now have a wonderful mother-in-law that makes tamales every year a round christmas time so i go visit her and make tamales with her and my sister-in-law.

I never heard of this until I lived in Tucson for 2 yrs. Being Italian we always had Ham and Lasagna. Started adding Tamales to the menu.

Tamales - Prepared corn dough (salt, baking powder, lard) is spread on a corn leaf - add spiced (garlic, paprica, salt, little peper, cominos) meat - beef, chicken, pork, deer, just about anyhting you can fill it up with, some people even use beans, then wrap it up and steam cook. Deliciosos with hot coffee ! Christmas is not Christmas without tamales for me ! I love the smell of reheated on the grill ! MMMMMMMMM Yum Yum !  :P
