weird food
« on: December 01, 2009, 06:05:06 pm »
i was just watching "the best thing i ever ate" on the food network and some chick was talking about a panini. it was sourdough bread with bacon, smoked gouda cheese, peanut butter, banana puree, and parsley.  ???  now i'm a pretty adventurous eater but that sounds strange to even me.

so what's the weirdest food combination you've heard of or tried?

I think that the most odd thing that I've eaten together is Ham/Pineapple Pizza. I still don't know why I thought it was a good idea at the time ^^

Peanut butter, pickles, and mayonnaise sandwich (my creation).  Grilled hot dogs steamed in chicken stock with melted Swiss cheese on toasted roll with strawberry jam, I saw that on one of those shows about sandwiches and I thought it looked good so I started making it and everyone that has tried it has absolutely loved it.

well, your "weird" is my friday night. we order pizza almost once a week and there are two combos we get- pepperoni and black olives, or ham and pineapple.  :)

i used to serve meals at a retirement home and that was a pretty common order, though i think it was usually a slice of sharp cheddar. i've tried it and though it wasn't terrible, i doubt i'll every eat it again. i've been told it's an acquired taste and i don't really have any desire to acquire it.  :)

I am very interested in primitive and survivalist lifestyles......you probably wouldn't want to hear about a lot of things I have sampled, nor some of the things I partake of regularly.

Chinese stir-fry with black fungus. (You can buy the fungus at Asian food markets.)

Can't think of anything really weird, but I like to dip my french fries in vanilla milkshake.

"panini" almost sounds like a dirty word.  :P

The durian is by far the weirdest thing that I've eaten.  It's a popular fruit in Singapore and most of southeast Asia but is renowned for its odor.  It's actually banned on the subways in Singapore because of the smell.  People like it at different stages of ripeness in different countries, but in Singapore, it's allowed to ripen beyond the point that the hard shell cracks which leaves the inside almost creamy.  I wanted to try it while I was there, and I'm proud to say that I did, but I certainly don't think that I'll be eating that again any time soon.

When I was preggers, I put chockolot syrup on orange sherbert.  It was good at the time.
