"The word Redskin derived from the practice of skinning Indians for easy transport when collecting bounty. The skin was removed from the top of the back and ran all the way down the legs. These skins were used for products such as reins, boots, belts, pouches, etc. Andrew Jackson, who was one of the worst enemies of the Native people, and by far the most brutal president towards Native people, collected the noses of every Indian he killed and encouraged the practice of skinning. Native people are not red. Mostly they range from tan to brown. Redskin comes from *bleep* skin."

Very interesting commentary ( I was not aware of the origin of the word). I really was just talking about a football game. I am of a mixed heritage myself, so on some levels I have experienced some prejudice.

No offense taken.
Most people are not aware of issues such as these.

You will never see much coverage of our issues by the mass media....it would bring up way too many embarrassments for the FedGov, and garner too much support for some of our causes.

I think education is key to addressing key issues of concern so try to take any opportunity to educate and bring awareness to them.

Didn't mean to highjack your thread......carry on.

I do know of this concern as we were taught about this in english. It is unfortunate that people use such insulting names but it happens for pretty much every religion/race it's just how life is so I feel your concernbu I don't think that people use the meaning of "redskin" to any offense as I don't even think they would know the word if football was never created. As for those who do use it to offend others well shame on them.

As for the football game today I'm a Philidelphian so.....GO EAGLES!
