Childcare Cost
« on: September 03, 2020, 05:48:23 am »
Did you know that the average cost of childcare is approximately $11,000 per year? It has been steadily climbing and not keeping pace with inflation.  This picture is definitely part of the economy.  Now, during a pandemic, it is even more significant in the overall economic scheme of things.

And that is on the cheap side, it can go up to $15,000 a year, also the younger they are the more expensive it is.  Child care can bankrupt you for certain.  And now with the pandemic some of them have closed their doors, it might even go hire now.

It is expensive but you can't leave the kids home while you work or go to school.  Many grandparents are watching kids and now have to home school them also since the virus has closed things down.

I have a hard time believing this.  I see this posted online often but do not believe the average person pays over $10,000 for child care when they are probably not making much over $10,000 a year from their job. I saw online where some local woman was saying she would pay $15 an hour for a baby sitter and it was at least 40 hours a week.  Also stating she was going back to work. There is no way she could afford to pay that much. She was going to pay more out for a baby sitter than she would make on her job.  I wonder if when people say this the "child care" is paid for thru government programs and it does not cost the parent anything.  But they say that because it sounds good to them.

I remember a few years ago a woman wanted me to baby sit her kid (min wage was 5.25) and I wanted $5 an hour (it was one day) and she said she would pay me $1.25 an hour.  Needless to say I did not keep the kid.  I did keep a neighbor's grandkid once for a little less than $2 an hour. I done it for a few weeks.  So I guess I am just not seeing where people are really getting that much for child care.

Then people need to not have kids if they can't take care of them.  May sound harsh but it is reality. I am so tired of people having kid after kid then wanting everybody else to pay to raise them.  Your figures would come out to around $289 a week.  I have never seen a day care center that charges $300 a week for child care.

My daughter is paying $17 an hour for child care for her two kids and she can afford it only because both she and her husband work and they have good jobs. They were paying for a nanny to come to their home from 8-5 every weekday but had to pay taxes and Social security on top of that but now they find it will be a lot cheaper to have an au pair live with them in their home so they are going that route now.

Yes,my 4yr old grandson is in child care. Believe his parents pay 300.00 a week. Glad he went back ,they check the kids temp everyday.  It's normal for him to be at school.

I have heard it is very expensive, but parents that work need to have it; unless they have family willing and available to help them out.

The struggle is real, that is 300.00/per child.  That is why I know couples who work opposite shifts so that one is there for the kids.  They use all kinds of creative solutions because child care is so expensive.  ones I know are not on government paying for them plans.  In some careers you have to keep up some hours or training to be able to continue doing the job (medical) full time when you are ready.  Lots of big corporations also have on site day care as a benefit or perk which is helpful for their employees.

My daughter paid $180 per week 14 years ago!
