A lot of pork again not even related to helping people. It looks like a regular budget bill with lots of items that have nothing to do with COVID-19.
Defense spending, federal wage increase, SNAP programs, high speed rail and underground for CA, bridge between NYC and Canada, Amtrak, Airlines, Emergency leave for federal and postal workers, VA’s supply chain modernization efforts, $10 million for the VA’s inspector general’s office to conduct oversight, Internet connectivity (evidently, they won't be in a hurry to have schools open if this part of the bill passes), tax credits (child tax credit, earned income tax credit for people without children even those ages 19-25), Rental assistance (which is fine BUT the money to be allocated to states, territories, counties, and cities, to dole out and you know what happens there), Obamacare premium subsidies. bail out of multi-employer pension plans, Mental health and substance abuse (why substance abuse??? nothing to do with COVID-19), Money for school reopening (why not use up the $66 billion left from the first 2 stimulus plans) and higher education (to provide funding to dedicate at least half of it to emergency financial aid grants for students). Some items like homeless funding, rental assistance, homeowner assistance and small business credits will ALL go through the states to dole out, which is a horrific idea if they're anything like my state. Not much went where it was supposed to go in the other stimulus plans.
All in all, they say $825 billion is for true COVID-19 help and the rest of the $1.9 Trillion is for unrelated COVID relief. (I haven't added it up).
Why can't Congress EVER pass a bill without pork? The first one was bad enough, now they're doing it again?
