Working during the pandemic

I work at a retirement community and am considered  "essesntial".  I've been working 40+ hours a week for the last 6 weeks.  The poor residents at this community are SO confused by what is going on --they do NOT understand why their families and friends are not visiting -- it is SO sad.  The staff tries to keep spirits up, but it is hard.  I am looking forward to the day when we can be "open" again, but for now am thankful that our restrictions have kept us safe -- no cases of Covid 19 in our building.  Thank the Lord.

Are the people at the facility all mentally incompetent?  Just curious.  Anytime I have visited nursing homes most are in their right mind and can understand things.  If they have access to the news and media they know what is going on.

I am curious but can family send packages in to their family?  Also curious as to if people could pull their family out of the facility or if they are locked in like a criminal.  One lady who worked in a nursing home said that family could not pull residents out.  That seems wrong.

My mother and father are/were (Dad passed three weeks ago-rest in peace). Mom has advanced stage Alzheimer's) and her facility has been on lock down. She is on the second floor with a balcony and visitors are able to interact with her in this manner. We serenaded her right after dad's funeral and she has friends from across the country coming to visit her on a daily basis. We are working on getting her transferred from Arizona to Colorado which is closer to us with hopes of doubling her visitor population. She would still be under quarantine for two weeks but we will have her in a more intensive memory care unit and provide a twenty four seven caretaker for the two weeks she will be confined to her apartment. Lots of hoops to jump through but worth it in the end.

Bless your heart.  Glad to hear your building is safe. In our neck of the woods, there have been many deaths in nursing homes, even though they have been on lock down for weeks. People who take are of the elderly have my utmost respect and appreciation.

Thank a God for people like you.  I have  had several family members in nursing homes.  They can be confused and not seeing family makes them more confused.  You are more than an essential worker, you are their caregivers, someone to hug them, someone to feed, wash, and dress them, you are their family.  I thank you and all your coworkers!

My Mom is in a assisted living facility and the place in on lock down.  I call her every few days and my brother and sister who live nearby her can visit through a window every once in a while.  I can also send her a "Miss you" card every now and then.  I'm grateful she is in a safe place and I admire all the workers who do so much.
