BTW, FYI, American cheese is cheese food, not cheese. It's processed and is only required to have 51% real cheese. The rest is filler and emulsifiers. Is that TMI? 

If you like it, I guess it doesn't really make that much difference. Oh, and it has a lower melting point so maybe it's better for toasted/grilled cheese sandwiches. 

My son always says it's one small step away from plastic.

DH likes almost any cheese on his.  Dd only likes American.
