I don't have any earned income so I don't file

You have no income whatsoever?  Well besides what you are making online?
After a certain age you do not have to file income taxes unless you make a lot of money.  Majority of people over 65 if they are not still working full time do not file.  They live on their social security and other retirement accounts.  I prepare taxes and most people I have done are having to pay in or get less back because of the loss of personal deductions  under the tax reform, not how much was taken out of their checks.

It really has nothing to do with age. People over 65 only have a slightly higher income threshold to file.

I am married taking my deductions as a single 0, so is my husband.  I never said TRUMP's taxes, " I said new tax reform, was for benefiting the RICH and FAMOUS, not me the "Middle class" DO NOT PUT WORDS IN ME.  I do not have dependents, my daughters are grown up and I have not been able to claim them in years, and I never claim more than me or 0 on my deductions, so do not call me IGNORANT, I deduct what I am supposed to deduct.

What I said was that last year a got back $2500 this year I have to pay $500 because i cannot claim my house.  That is all, whether I like or dislike TRUMP, was not something I mentioned nor will discussed with anyone. So please do not put words in my mouth, besides the Tax Reform was approved by all of the politicians not just 1.

In other words, the standard deduction is now larger than your itemized deductions. That's a good thing. It sounds like there are other reasons in play. Even in prior years, when people switch jobs they doesn't always fill out their W-4 the same and do not have that extra withheld as they were accustomed.

Exactly. Yes the standard deduction is more.  I think I saw somewhere that is said most people will be better off just taking the standard deduction.  Not sure why you would want extra withheld except to get a refund.  I remember a guy once filled his out and he wanted $5 extra took out of his check.  Which is just a headache for the employer.  Luckily he only worked about a week and then he quit. lol

We are getting back less in taxes this year. It is due to my husband retiring and we did not pay in as much as we use to.

I used to always get a refund when I could claim kids as dependants but that is long gone. Also, I don't have enough in interest, medical etc to itemize. I think last year I only got back $200 which is better than owing. Now that I read this, I better get all my stuff together and take it to the accountant. Interesting to see whats going to happen this year..

We haven't done our taxes yet, but I have been hearing a lot of people complaining about how much lower their refund is this year.

I thought we would get back quite a bit this year. We purchased our first home a little over a year ago, bought 2 cars and had our first child so I was expecting more than usual. I was pretty disapointed when I found out what we were getting back.

After years of having to pay in, this year we are getting a large amount back. Big enough we are doing a family vacation this year, we haven't been on a decent vacation in years.

What does buying a house and 2 cars have to do with anything? You cannot count that off on your taxes.
