Amazon is interested in buying some of the locations but not to re-open them as toy stores. KB Toys is in the talks of making a comeback. I know FAO Schwartz wants to open little stores that make sense for them. We'll see what happens.

It's so sad to see it go since for many of us, we grew up as a 'Toys 'R' Us' kid.  We didn't have Targets and Walmart and on-line stores to get our stuff from.  That being said, it makes sense it is going bankrupt when it couldn't compete in sales prices.  I, myself, though sad to see it go, is guilty of this as well.  Why should I pay a high price for the same item in this 'specialty' toy store, that I could get for cheaper in Walmart or Target?  I actually bought toys for my niece there only as a last resort.  If it lowered its prices to keep in competition with Target and Walmart I might have remained a loyal customer beyond my 'toy playing years'.

Sad, going the way of book stores, music stores, soon all we will be left with is Walmart and Amazon.

The problem is there is really no reason to go to a store now.  I can literally order everything from my computer and have it delivered to me.  There's no need to go to a store to see the item that I want or see what other things are out there.  When I was little my parents bought me something that I already owned, so they took me to the store, let me return it, and then let me pick what I wanted to replace it.  Most kids nowadays don't get to do this, which is unfortunate because so many new products aren't discovered because they aren't advertised during the kids shows.

Toys R Us plans to close or sell all U.S. stores, according to a person familiar with the plans. The chain has struggled through a months long bankruptcy process, buckling under heavy debt inherited from a 2005 buyout and intense competition from Walmart and Amazon.   HOW SAD even not having any kids i used to love checking this place out at X-Mas   :( :( :(

It's all over the news.  As more and more people shop online more and more places like this will go under.  Maybe they should have focused more on online sales and lowering prices.  I hate to see anything big I grew up with go under even if I only went in there once every few years.
