I've commented on it before and I'm sure I will again... but I just encountered two of the most blatant examples of this FC pet peeve of mine (both committed by the same user, no less). Before getting too worked up about it (because it really isn't worth it, I know) let me just get right to it.
Is it at
all possible for forum contributors to read
beyond the very first post in a thread to see where the thread conversation has gone before adding in their own comments? There are quite a few of us who do converse back and forth and respond to comments, but it feels like the vast majority of people simply type off their reaction to the very first post and disregard or never even bother to read the other comments which came before theirs, but after the original poster. I guess this is the result of monetizing 30+ forum contributions per month. More people are worried about getting in 30 (usually short) posts, than are concerned about actually communicating and connecting with other's thoughts and ideas (which I would suggest was the whole purpose/policy behind monetizing the forum in the first place).
Just as a for instance, see
this thread about the FAKE NEWS regarding the death of Kirk Douglas and the first seven or eight responses.
Is it really that difficult or time consuming to bother to read a few replies before leaving your own?
Then I came across another equally frustrating example of the same thing in another controversial thread which I am not going to link here -- (the offender posting a response to an original post several months old where even the original poster seemed to take an alternate stance later after seeing some of the responses).
I know that I am being crabby; and I know that I am not the forum police; and I apologize for my crabbiness... But Man O Man is it frustrating! It seems like the only way to really get a point across to the masses here is to be the one who starts a post rather than one who insightfully responds to a post. So I guess that's why I decided to rant and why I decided to create a NEW thread for my rant. I just see so many GREAT opinions and ideas here in the general flow of conversation that get lost or abandoned.
So folks, please, for my sake
is there any way we can take a few minutes to read ALL or MOST (or even just SOME) of the comments to see where a thread has evolved before tapping out a short response to either an old opinion or to fake news that has been debunked?
It is just a suggestion and not a mandate. I will continue to contribute as I have in the past -- some days cheerily
and some days as a grouch
. My apologies if I have offended anyone.
