Online Privacy
« on: October 28, 2017, 05:08:12 am »
Lately, I've been researching online privacy reading articles, watching documentaries, and even forum discussions. I have a lot to learn but so far what I've gathered is companies are definitely still selling data. It's just indirect.

Free US e-mail services such as yahoo are subject to monitoring. There are alternatives like Swiss proton mail but if the recipient uses these services they can still read it. I suggest switching and spreading awareness to at least reduce risk.

Private browsing does not hide your activity from your ISP. At worst this means you can still be targeted with ads based on data you enter and pages you visit. If anyone wonders why your computer seems to just know what you like. It's not a coincidence.

Most of us know the internet is forever but I never really understood how that could be. Webpages can be cached meaning that there could be older version of any given page stored. This includes deleted comments!

I would suggest using a proxy and or vpn to surf the web, use proton mail instead of gmail or yahoo, be mindful about what you post. What do you guys do if anything to protect your online privacy?

I get where you're coming from. My husband and I just the other day were discussing this Internet privacy invasion. He was talking about the targeted ads that come from information gathering and selling. This is really a big deal for my generation (I'm 55). We were taught not to tell people anything that does not pertain to them directly unless they were a close friend or family member. So it seems crazy to us that much (but not all) of the younger generation just puts really personal stuff out into the Internet world. :P
