Another excerpt from "Attacking Anxiety and Depression":

self-talk: key to healthy self esteem

* I can choose the thoughts I entertain.
* I know positive thoughts produce positive feelings.
* I will look for the good.
* Negative thinking is a bad habit that I can break.
* I am a great problem solver.
* I am worthy of inner peace.
* I am alive and participating in my day.
* I am action oriented.
* I am proud of my accomplishments.

deal with negative thoughts:

1. RECOGNIZE - makes us feel bad - stop sign.
2. QUESTION - is it true, reasonable, rational, realistic?
3. RE-STRUCTURE - state the positive.
4. TRANSPORT - negative state to positive one.
5. PROBLEM SOLVE - what can you DO to improve the situation?
6. WRITE - change negative dialogue to positive. 4 each day

Positive feelings can't co-exist with negative thoughts.
Change your mind; change your mood.

"As a man thinketh, so is he." Proverbs 23:7

I don't suffer any anxiety attacks but I do know someone who does and there have been many times when I've had to try and comfort that person and try to get him into a more relaxed mood.

I have only had anxiety attacks for a short period once in my life.  They were situational and ended after about 6 months.  Thank God!

Anxiety attacks can be quite severe and life debilitating for some people.  Sometimes therapy and medication can be quite effective, but be prepared that you have to engage in the therapy and take the meds compliantly.

I suffer from severe anxiety disorders. Have been for most of my life. Can't afford xanax so I've been on klonopin for most of my adult life. Therapy doesn't seem to work. I once tried ativan but was afraid I'd od because it doesn't have a lasting effect like klonopin. I see a doctor on a regular basis for anxiety and other issues. It aggravates me when I see people who abuse the disorder just to get some meds. The doctor I see quit prescribing it all together due to this reason but prescribes it for me because I have such a long history of anxiety issues and have been seeing this doctor for about 16 years.

Yes, mildly. I've been searching online for solutions - and there are some from meditation to visualization. The most promising is a book called Dare: The New Way to End Anxiety and Stop Panic Attacks by Barry McDonagh.

His perspective is quite different than most other "teachers/doctors" on anxiety attacks. This book also got an unusually lot of good reviews which made it stand out amongst all the other books on anxiety. It's worth a read. :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

I have suffered anxiety attacks all of my adult life. I am on Paxil and xanax. I have been on these two drugs for as long as I can remember. :(

I don't suffer from anxiety attacks so I can't empathize.  I do know people who do though and it's dilapidating for them.  The other day at work a girl was panicking.  She had forgotten to take some medication before work and she ran out of the building crying.  She was sent home for the rest of her shift.  The following day she had taken her dose and was fine.
