don't put an "s" on
« on: September 01, 2016, 07:14:21 am »
some people want to add an "s" to my last name "Meyer"
I live in Fort Myers too so that adds to the mixup.

I have a neighbor with the last name "Wiggin".
I inadvertently added an "s" when I was talking to someone about her.
She has been sick recently.

I think it's common for people to pronounce / spell words that they are familiar with even if that word is incorrect... My GF had a heck of a time trying to remember her daughter's teacher's name; she kept wanting to use a more common last name than what her actual last name is. Similarly, I had made up lyrics for a bunch of songs in my younger years... I may not have heard the actual lyric correctly (or was unfamiliar with the correct lyric) so I'd ended up changing them to fit into something that I know. For example, at the time I had never heard the slang term "jive", so Abba's Dancing Queen for me went something like:

"You can dance
You can die
Having the time of your life"
