bill errors
« on: May 11, 2016, 07:01:59 am »
there are certain companies that are notorious for their billing mistakes.
I have heard people say that that their phone company makes mistakes on their bill nearly every month.
It sure must be exhausting for them to call the company and straighten out the bill.

Been there with a phone company.  And I'd spend hours a day on the phone with them to get things fixed. My most recent mix up was in a 4 unit apartment building and our gas bill.  We were set up on the budget plan.  Made our payments early..each year the plan would get readjusted.  This last year they wanted us to pay a $180 difference from the years accumulative charges.  After looking back at the account and seeing all our timely exact balances paid off they admitted someone else charges were being put on our account.  :o

I just hate the bills that are wrong. I had an electric bill that kept getting larger and larger, the first couple of months i paid it and then finally went in to talk to them as it was over $600.00 and i knew dang good and well i  was not using that kind of electric.  Well they gave me a card to write down the exact numbers on it and bring it back in. Once it was all done, I did not have to pay an electric bill for 3 months. Yea one for me. Then i received a phone bill for $800.00 of course the next day i was at the phone company. Nope not for me. i thought it was straightened out. Nope received another one the next monthSo back i went. Finally was straightened out.  Numbers were close but not mine.

I would bet that a lot of those 'mistakes' aren't actually mistakes.  Most people don't check their bills closely and even if they do they get upset but still pay the extra amount.  They do it because they know most people won't say anything and if someone does say something, they just drop the extra charges.

The most horrific mistake I received on a bill, well here's my story. My husband purchased an ATV and got a special rate of 3.99% for the duration of the loan, so long as the loan was paid off within 24 months. Then approx 4 months into the loan, I received a letter/statement from the loan company saying my promotional rate of 3.99% was due to expire at the end of the month, and after that, I would need to pay the regular APR of stupid-amount-%. I did a double take, looked back into my loan documents, and my contract clearly stated that my promotional rate of 3.99% would be fixed and guaranteed for the duration of the loan, so long as it was paid off within 24 months! Of course I wrote a letter and forwarded copies of my loan documents. The bank wrote back and said that my account was all in order and I would indeed get my promotional rate for the duration of the loan. Did I get an apology? No! Did I pay the loan off before the deadline? Yes! Will I use the bank again? No! Did I do some sums and work out what I could have ended up paying had I not kept my loan documentation as proof? Of course! I would have lost more than $800 in loan payments in addition to the original agreed amount of 3.99%. A lesson to us all.... keep your documents and always read them thoroughly!
