senior living
« on: May 06, 2016, 07:44:05 am »
Rent prices do fluctuate.
Nine years ago, I had two choices for a place to move to.
I saw the brochure for one [Barkley Place]and met the marketing rep for another place [The Palms].
Barkley Place's rent was a bit high then.
I chose the cheaper place, The Palms.
Nine years have passed and I am moving to Barkley Place.
The rent is lower there[Barkley Place] now and higher where I live now [The Palms].
I can see from this experience that it's like an economics game.
When a place is popular and there is a waiting list, the rent price is high.
It remains to be seen if the pricing will go down at The Palms.
There are many overpriced facilities. The rich people live there.

When the rent is low, it attracts the consumer.
When the rent is high, the consumer shops around for lower prices.
In the case of Barkley Place, over a ten year span, the rent did not just increase.
It decreased to attract new business.
Every senior citizen needs housing of some kind.

They are building senior housing where my son lives, apartments .My son would love for us to live closer.I have no idea how much the rent is might look that up. We own a home and the mortgage isn't to bad but we are an hour drive away from our kids and grandkids.

I will stay in my home as long as i can, but if something should happen to my husband, i might not be able to afford all of the maintance on it.  The  ones who cut grass and work on the yards are getting so darn high.  And i would to hire  some one to do it. In that case i think i would start looking for an apartment. If  my step father and husband pass before me, i will go back to the big city an live where my doctors are. Right now i drive 165 miles one way.

Unfortunately, there are some unscrupulous apartment developers that take advantage of our seniors. Rents are high... leaving them out in the cold and taking all their money when they know they are trying to survive in a very limited income.

I'm starting to see the draw to living in a senior community.   No late night parties in the neighborhood, no kids yelling daily, no massive traffic, I can't wait to move to a leisure/senior community.

Here in Utah, we have subsidized rent for seniors who are on a limited income.  It could be the section 8 program but there's another program for seniors where the rent is based on their monthy income.  There's also specific housing where tenants don't have to climb stairs.  They can use an elevator instead.

It's nice for seniors to have affordable options.
Have a great day!

In my area there are different housing for seniors.  There are many housing that the tenant is responsible for the monthly rent and there are many housing that the rent is based in your income.

Yes this is true.  I own the house my mom built in the early eighties and it is in bad need of repair and remodel but even though I have no house payment I can't afford to fix the house so it is a catch 22 - I could live in a nice apartment and not have to worry about repairs but then I wouldn't be able to afford rent.  Oh well guess be thankful for what ever we have.

i work at the area ministry here and we get so many seniors who need repairs to their homes and dont have anyone to help them with it --we go to our churches and ask for volunteers to help them --i saw a thing on facebook the other day that said put our seniors in prison and criminal in homes --the seniors would get free health care --three meals a day --free tv and would be checked on regularly --makes no sense why our systems dont take care of our seniors
