Even Native Americans were immigrants. They came here from Russia/Asia over the bridge of land that connects to Alaska, now underwater.

Isn't that just a theory? Although even if it was 100% true, that was thousands of years ago...kind of odd to call the people who were both here first and for thousands of years "immigrants" in a way comparable to the Europeans who colonized them.

Smudgyglasses - Try going to a country that doesn't have borders. Why should we be the only country without a border?

I don't think any countries should have borders. They are imaginary lines humans place on a map that decide the course of human lives, I think this is an awful practice.

There wouldn't be any countries if there weren't borders. There's a "border" between my yard and my neighbors. Abolish borders? Should I be able to throw my trash in his yard? Complete nonsense.

Isn't that what we've been doing all along?

CIA running drugs and guns through their country.  Destabilizing their economies.

The School of the Americas?  Where we  train people to be terrorists, to overthrow their governments.

Maybe instead of worrying about people coming in, we should keep our own "trash" at home, contained.

Of course I only meant national borders that divide countries. Not the border between your yard and your neighbors'. Further, if there were no borders, people would likely still refer to countries as their names, etc.

There's no border keeping me from leaving my town and entering it again, but I still call it what it is.

I think we already have enough immigrants. Majority of them take away jobs from Americans. Don't pay taxes, send money over to another country, and get government assistance / help. It's hurting too many Americans financially, emotionally, and USA.

I agree that something needs to be done about the immigration issue. I just don't think every one of them should be sent back. I don't think it's fair to send a child back for the crimes of their parents. When the child grew up here and has made a life here, just for us to send back to a country they left as an infant? I went to highschool with a kid that was brought here at 7 months old. His entire life has been here. So we just deport him? Thanks to the deferred action from Obama he is currently going to school, working two jobs andplans to enlisted in the army. But we should just deport him right? In my opion, he should be given a path to citizenship, but his parents should be deported. His parents commited the crime of bringing him here. He had no choice in the matter. They should be the ones to receive the punishment. And I know that my frind isn't the only child in this circumstances. There are millions of children who didn't get a choice in coming here and now here they are. And we has Americans want to punish them for it? My solution to the immigration problem is closing the borders until we sort out the problem within the country. Anyone already in the immigration system with criminal backgrounds are deported. Anyone we find not already in the removal process with a criminal background is deported. The we start with the children and give them a path to obtain citizenship. We don't give it to them immediately, but we give them a process in which they will obtain citizenship. No crimes, drugs offenses. Can't use government welfare throughout the entire process and X amount of years after obtaining citizenship. Must either go to college or join the military. Must secure a job for X amount of years and go on a sort of probation for X amount of years after obtaining citizenship and if they are arrested for crimes in the probation period, they're deported immediately. Make it hard enough so that only the truly dedicated make it through at the end. Adults that came here illegally without a criminal background are entered into a lottery system and only an X amount of people get to stay through a random drawing and then they to have to enter the same sort of process as the children. But to do a mass deportation of 11 million illegal immigrants is ludacris and EXSPENSIVE!! That's just 11 million that's in the system. There are still millions upon millions still hiding in the shadows.

Of course I was just using an analogy.

A "border" has nothing to do with the ability to enter or not. A border is just the place where one country stops and another begins. That's it.
