Because we don't want to go to jail, get tickets, or be one of "those" people!!!!

without laws we would be nothing better than a bunch of wild chimps and gorillas running around.  laws give order to civilization and keeps people in check.

Because it is the right thing to do!  If everyone would just follow the "golden rule", there would be no need for laws!

While the majority of us obey the law, many still dont. Can you imagine if there were NO traffic laws? You would take your life into your hands everytime you drove or maybe even crossed the street.

OH lemme go make a deposit to the bank and a robber is right behind me."Why dont you go ahead of me!!"

So that we do not have a society filled with chaos and lawlessness. The world is bad enough as it is (case in point: the Middle East). The absence of laws would make things worse on an entirely different level.

What about laws that are unfair? Do we still have to follow them?

One has not only a legal but a moral responsibility to obey just laws. Conversely, one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws. I would agree with St. Augustine that “an unjust law is no law at all”.

Are you saying we should break laws that are unjust?

I'm saying we are under no obligation to obey an unjust law.
