I take a powder form of magnesium.
I have seen a brand with magnesium flakes for a foot bath, lotion and spray form.
We do  need more as we grow older.

I've been thinking about taking some to help me sleep at night. My circadian rhythm is always so off.

I don't know a whole lot about this but I have been reading about the idea that if you have more magnesium in your diet you will lose weight more easily (effects your metabolism) sleep better and have fewer cramps.  My husband takes it for restless leg and leg cramps.
