I have never smoked nor have I ever had any kind of additiction however my husband chewed tobacco for nearly 20 years. I honestly thought he would never be able to quit and then one day near my son's eighth birthday he asked what my son would like. My son said he would like for my husband to quit chewing tobacco for his birthday, which my husband did! It has been nearly 3 years since he quit!

I never smoked before. I took a puff once though a long time ago and hated it. I'm sensitive to bitter taste. LOL!

May 30, 1987 was my last cigarette;  I remember it well!  Long story and I won't go into it today but will say I will never smoke another cigarette.  Won't deny that there have been a few occassions when I still feel the urge to smoke but will not.  I was almost 40 years old when I quit and had smoked since I was 18 years old.  I had half-way attempted to quit a few other times but failed.  I'd sure hate to have to pay the price of cigarettes this day and time.  Too expensive!

How on earth are people even able to afford to smoke?  ::) They're often the same ones buying lottery tickets at the gas station.  And now there are the lovely vapor sticks for you to suck on. :bad: Of course, the cigarette companies are elated that people have bolstered their own personal economies. It's a billion dollar industry and they know it's hurting you in the long run. And they don't even care.  >:(

Just think if the people who smoke saved all the money they spend on cigarettes per year, multiplied by how many years they've smoked, they could probably have a nice nest egg saved up. I'm not even going to the place of how people who smoke smell to those of us who do not smoke.

I think a great way to stop smoking is to stop going to the places where you smoked, stop doing the things you did when you smoked (like drinking) or being with the people that you smoked with. Hard, yes. Worth it, yes.

I do know that it's hard because it is an addiction and it is a social activity. It's also a personal decision, so nothing anyone else says will matter to the smoker.  :'( They just have to want to do it for themselves.  :in-love:

I quit smoking cigarettes 3 years ago last month....But, I still use the e-cig!  My doctor says that from the sound of my lungs; he finds it hard to believe that I ever smoked at all!   ;)

I have cut down  a lot, although have never smoked more then a half pack, But darn if everyone would get off my back and hubby would quit it might help. I have been going through so dang many tests, and have been so worried about  each and every one what are they going to find. Well no cancer and i have had every one of the test with radiation, bone scans, MRI, complete body xrayed and now getting ready to do a necualar stress test on the 19th.  Plus a truck load of blood work. It has come down to my hyper thyroid and graves  It has been the hardest time for me all the worrying and being sick with some of the test. When I can quit I will.  Oh well .

I quit 5 years ago and still to this day know how easy it would be to start back up, but never will. I smoked almost 3 packs a day.

I'm glad to see people quitting and making healthier decisions!  I think everybody needs to be mindful of all different things they are doing that are potentially hurting their health.  A girl I was with smoked and I didn't let it bother me and she was a great girl, but eventually at least in my case it started to a little bit.  I guess just to see this cute girl that I cared for so much voluntarily doing that to herself knowing the health risk.  Idk I never brought it up to her and I felt like she was feeling bad too being that I was never a tobacco user and I'd be sitting with her whenever she had to smoke a cig.  Not a deal breaker for me but it is impossible to not be a lil bothered I think coming from a non smoker!

I gained my Independence from tobacco on July 4, 1964 (50 years ago) and that's why I am still alive. I smoked since I was 12 and got up to 2 packs a day of Pall Mall's (the long ones with no filters). Both my younger siblings tried and failed, but they both died from it long ago. My brother got lung cancer and my sister died from COPD.
