Body Metabolism
« on: January 12, 2015, 10:21:43 am »
How does our body metabolism work? I thought it was designed to help us burn fat. Last week I went to the gym 5 days. I was very excited thinking that I was burning some fats. When I got on the weight scale, I gained two pounds instead of losing two pounds. I was very disappointed. I ate less food. What happened?

It's normal to "gain" weight cause your body is now gaining MUSCLE in place of the fat especially if you not only did cardio but also weight training.  So don't worry cause now you will "burn" more  fat, even when you are at rest.

It's almost impossible to gain muscle in a week especially if you're eating at a calorie deficit

It's actually just fluid retention to help repair the tears in the muscle you created by working out. It happens while your body adjusts to something new or very strenuous . It'll go away once your body adjusts to the new routine

They tell me muscle weighs more than fat, so when you exercise and gain muscle mass, you actually gain weight.
I don't know, it seems no matter what I do or eat (or don't eat), I can't lose weight.

If you eat too little your body thinks you're starving so your metabolism slows down.  There's a lot of ways to stimulate your metabolism.  My go to source is Dr Oz's website.

If you expect to see results that fast then you will forever be disappointed.  Any weight that is lost fast...will go back on fast.  Stick with it and you will be plenty happy in the end.

If you want to see results...you want to make sure you don't pay too much attention to the scale.  It takes time to see results.  When I begin a new food and exercise program I wait at least 2 weeks before I step on the scale.  You might see positive results in other areas; for example, maybe you've lost an inch around your waist?

Be patient with yourself and don't take the scale too seriously.
Have a great day!

Can you tell us what metabolism pills you take, BossLady?  Please, please!  :)  And do you diet and/or exercise along with that?
