I got a gift I didn't know how to use, nor could I put it together.  It was something to put around my neck. It had a clip. I have seen hospital workers wear them. I have also seen postal workers wear them.
The clip was too hard for me to pinch open  to insert an ID card. (I don't have one anyway.)
I couldn't get the clasps to connect together to put around my neck. ( two black complementary pieces)

I'm not really sure about what the gag is?  Maybe they thought you could use it.  Try asking them to help with it maybe?
