Oh boy been there.  We moved into this place in 2012.  It took till this a month ago for the landlord to call on a professional to fix the furnace.  It was the igniter.  And the lid over the flu was gone so it rained, snowed etc over the last few years creating rust.  There were days where we had to warm up in front of an open oven and space heater.  Kinda pathetic but for Christmas I bought my oldest an electric blanket since she sleeps so low to the floor and froze her tush off.  Heck with cold temps settling in already we've got plastic up on the windows... compared to years past we're so cozy and comfortable we feel spoiled.

you can go out and buy a heater on wheels  to plug in.
There are those "safe" coil ones. I had one when I lived in New York.

I understand what you're going through.  It's happend to me several times over the years.  (I've lived here 24 years.)  Hope you get your furnace fixed real soon.  In the meanwhile, keep warm and cozy under the covers and wear sweaters or jackets over your clothing when walking through the house.  I use to cook and bake extra food and pretty much stay in the kitchen to stay warm.  There I hardly noticed the lack of heat. :)

Stay warm!  I never had furnace problems, but a few years ago we had a major ice/snow storm snd we were without power for 5 ( yes, 5), days.  No heat, no lights, no water (have a well).  Sad thing there was no place we could go, the entire town was hit.  Talk about cold!

I had to deal with that almost every year when I was renting - the heating system was hot water, and the pipes were so old that water would evaporate over the year, so each fall, someone would have to bleed the air out of the pipes to get heat to my apartment.  One year I was without heat for about a month - it was not fun!

All I can say is I was thankful I had crocheted a lot of blankets!

Monday it was 80 degrees and it dropped to 22 degrees Tuesday morning. We had not even turned on the regular heater yet and low and behold it did not work. Had to call the repairman. Thank heavens for a small town he come over and ifed it on his lunch hour. Bless his little pea picking heart.

Been there, done that.  My furnace motor broke one year and I discovered the reality of Three Dog Night.  :snowflake:

Do you have a ceramic space heater?  They're not too expensive and easier on the bills than other space heaters.  You can also warm your bed with a heating pad.  Then you can do what Shirley Mac Laine was told to do when she visited Peru, and sleep naked.  Your body heat fills the space under the covers so you stay warmer.  Good time to do some baking.

Hope it gets fixed soon.

Been there.  We had our boiler go out a few years ago.  We all basically huddled in the same room and hung up sheets to keep in the little heat we could get going from a space heater we had.  That was the first time in a while that I was actually cold while in my house.

had very brief stints without heat  the only thing bad about it was not knowing how long it would take to get fixed.

I hope it gets fixed soon. I've had to go without heat sometimes. It is not fun and I hate the cold.

Hai everyone thanks for the suggestions and the replies! We spent the first night without a heater and the next day got it fixed.. Apparently the wire was hooked to the ac but not to the thermastat.. Best part is it was fixed for free :).. I am very thankfull for the heater because another night below freezing.. and i would have been an icecube :p
