power outage
« on: October 16, 2014, 04:37:49 pm »
I live near downtown Fort Myers in Florida. It seems to be a prime spot for power outages. Seventeen hundred homes lost power last night.  My computer goes nuts, but other than that all was well. I got rid of a clock that I kept having to reset. I bought a projection clock that keeps the time [Oregon Scientific Self-Setting Atomic].  My phone kept the time as well, once the power came back on.

I had one last night. The rain was coming down insanely intense! Power came back on within minutes but I was studying for my midterm and all of a sudden everything was BLACK! LOL!! Next time I will keep a flash light near by. :)

Fortunately I've never lived in a place that had frequent power outages. We had a real bad one almost 3 years ago. We had insanely high winds and it knocked the power out for almost 14 hours. Not only that but it fried my computer.

We used to have power outages all the time where I live but I have to say in the last few years we have had very few. So it is getting better.

It is a good idea when the power goes out to unplug your computer so that when the power comes back on you don't have a power surge.  We have always had surge protectors and the power had went off and then when it came back on there was a power surge and it not only fried the computer but literally caught it on fire.  Good thing I was there when it happened.  Although, all I done was started screaming for my brother. lol.  He threw it outside. :)

I did do that after the power went out. Something went on when the power went out. That's what the computer place told me it was anyway, a surge. There was nothing salvageable on there. Fortunately I back up everything I do so I wasn't too concerned about that.

Once had one that lasted for 5 days.  I felt like I was in survival training...how to live without electricity in 5 hard lessons.
