 hello,
Do you know some one with a mental disorder if so how do you support them. I will start by saying i support them with going to support groups. making sure med are in order and just being there for them for support.
and also i use the phone support were someone suffer or depressed can pick up the phone and encourage them. and there online groups as well at least make sure they go to there dr. for talk therapy one on one helps the neg thinking into positive and there support for family and friends so they can handle how to cope with the illness of there love one. :)

There are a ton of mental illnesses and then things like depression and anxiety that I do not really consider a mental illness that is considered one today.  Back in the day if you were said to have mental problems it meant you had some degree of mental retardation.  Honestly, I think the term mental illness is over used.  I do know there are a ton of people on medication for chemical imbalances in their brain.  I do not grasp how so many thousands of people can need to be medicated for this imbalance.  I do also believe it is a real issue.  I am just wondering what is causing it.  Personally, I would go with the growth hormones, pesticides sprayed on our crops, and all the other crap (I can't think of at the moment) that is done to make the food grow bigger and faster to keep up with the demand of the millions of over weight people who eat more and more.  It is totally absurd.

Yes I know a couple of people with a mental illness, I am always there for them in supporting them if they need to talk or just to have someone listen to them. I remind them about there med and doctor appointments. The one thing I know is support Is a big part of healing for them.

My cousin has ADD and ADHD, so if he forgets to take medication he can be a handful. I am supportive of him though, and he if he starts to get too wound up I usually tell him to tone it down some.

My dad is bipolar/manic depressive. When he's off his meds he can get really irritable, well that's kind of an understatement. All me and my mom can really do is just be there and listen. Know that when he gets like that it's not about us or our fault even though it feels like he may be targeting us. The good thing is is that he knows what he's like and he can recognize when something is really wrong and can get help for it.

Yes, I do. I just do whatever I can to help how and when I can. Whether it's listening to them when they need to talk to someone or just sitting in silence so they don't have to feel like they're alone. Just being there sometimes is all the support they need. It differs from person to person, so a lot of patience, kindness, compassion, understanding and love is what counts the most.

That's good advice. :)
Opinion: 1) a view, judgment, or appraisal formed in the mind about a particular matter 2) belief stronger than impression and less strong than positive knowledge
This is the internet, learn to let people have opinions. And don't be so sensitive.  8)

My husband has severe depression due to the pain and physical handicaps.  He has had six back surgeries including a spinal fusion.  The extensive damage from his back problems has created nerve and muscle damage to his right leg and foot.  He has had tumors removed from the bottom of his right foot that resulted from the nerve damage in his back plus he has foot drop (no control over his right foot) and wears a brace on that leg.  He takes a "happy pill" every morning that, by the way, we order from Canada and it is shipped from India because I can't afford to buy it in the US.  So, yes I know someone with a mental illness.  Some days it is a struggle for both of us to cope with it, some days it's not so bad.  Gotta love him, anyway.  Been together 35+ years.....
Have a wonderful day!
