I use them in my garage as soon as flies surface in the spring and always keep a spare for when the effectiveness wears off.  It really helps keep my house fly-free.  Another good protection against insects is Ortho Home Defense spray.  Spiders are a big phobia of mine and one spray application lasts for months.
