Screen Shots
« on: December 03, 2013, 12:51:31 pm »
I have never been able to take screen shots on any computer from the beginning of time. I  don't know how to do it. I've tried using Ctrl/PrtScn key and tried using Alt/PrtScn but they never seemed to work.

I see a lot of members can do it. Can someone tell me the secret?
Thanks,

swogden

Just click the PrtScr button.

The image goes to your Clipboard and sits there until you paste it somewhere.  For the purpose of FC, you want to paste it in the PAINT (software).

To bring up the PAINT software, click on START, All Programs, Accessories and then PAINT.  You may have to scroll down the list to find it.

Once you've used PAINT, it may show up in the list of recent programs you've used that show up when you click START.

When you click PAINT, the PAINT workpage will come up.  Click on PASTE.
This bring up the image you just put on your clipboard (ie the screenshot)

You now can use PAINT to CROP (define the portion of the screenshot that you want to save -- clip Crop again to confirm the change.),
use the ERASURE to remove items you want to remove (ie your email address and the ID of the transaction -- and anything else you don't want the world to see.

If you make a mistake, I believe you can just click PASTE again and the original image will come up again.

When you are happy with the modified screenshot, click on File icon (upper left hand corner) and save the image using the SAVE AS link.  You need to provide a Title for the image and define the extension (see drop down menu provide for the TYPE line-- I use jpeg)

When you define your Title, make it something that will be easy for you to identify.  I use FCPOPmmddyyy.

Save the picture image in your shared picture library.

FYI:  you can also paste the image into an email.  Not that you would want to do that for your FC POP -- but if you ever wanted to send an image of something via an email, you can create the screenshot and paste it onto an email

One additional thought:  when you click on PrtScn, that image goes to your clipboard and stays there until you a) turn off your computer or b) click the PrtScn again.

Thanks for your answer...although nothing worked. I read up on clipboard a little bit on line. Unless I'm looking in the wrong place, clipboard may have disappeared. I remember that I used to get some kind of notice if I cut something but never pasted it anywhere, but I no longer get that. (Am I making sense?)

I tried using PrtScn key by itself but it didn't seem to work, especially since I couldn't find where the info would have gone.   :-[

Have you tried pasting it immediately into Paint without going anywhere first

What kind of PC do you have?  What operating system are you using?  Do you have a PAINT software program on your machine?

I have a Dell desktop with Windows XP and the Paint software is different than the Paint software on my Windows 7 laptop.  I haven't tried to "look" at my clipboard -- I just PASTE what I PRTSCR using my PAINT software.

As ladavia89 suggests -- just paste it immediately into PAINT.

I have a Dell desktop and Windows XP, too. I tried the PRTSCR/PASTE using Paint before your answer but that didn't work, either.<sigh>

I tried the PrintScreen button on my Dell Windows XP.

When I brought up the PAINT software, the page was blank.  (Actually a white square on top of a grey background.

When I clicked on the Edit link (upper left portion of Paint window)
and then Paste (in the drop down menu that comes up when you click on Edit),
the screenshot that I had made using the Printscreen button came up.

What happens when you try this?

I'll have to try that and I'll let you know. I hope to check it out this weekend.

My schedule is all messed up this week with Christmas coming, last week for making any healthcare policy changes, looking for a dishwasher, Google crashing, etc.   :sad1:
