I used to be a telemarketer. it is so interesting when you become the very thing that used to irritate you the most. it is a very hard and demanding job but after awhile you get used to being hung up I know one thing I never want to go back to being in the field again has anyone ever done telemarketing?

I've never done telemarketing, and I don't want to. We are currently being bombarded with a scammer who calls several times every day. We don't have caller ID, and I don't know if there's a way to block calls on a landline. We've reported them to the police, but they still keep calling, giving various American names even though their accents give them away as foreigners. When they call, as soon as we know who it is, we hang up on them without talking, but they still keep calling back. Complete jerks!

Interesting - must say, you must have a thick skin to be able to do that job....

I almost did telemarketing shortly after I graduated college.  I graduated, and much like the youth of today, there were no jobs because of government and company cutbacks.  I was getting desperate for a job to pay rent and interviewed to take the job, and was hired.

The location was horrible - an open room with ashtrays everywhere full of ashes and butts.  The whole room smelled like one giant ashtray.  I can't imaging what that place looked like during the day with everyone smoking.

Lucky for me, when I got home, I had a message on my machine calling me in for an interview for a lab position at a LensCrafters.  I immediately called the telemarketer back and said I had a better job offer I was taking and quit before I started.  I did end up getting the LensCrafters job a couple weeks later.

I felt I dodged a bullet there...

I wasn't but I worked in a call center that also had telemarketing.  I hated working in a call center.  Often we had to clean up and make right the lies that the telemarketing reps told the customers just to get the sale.

I have never done it that is why I got red of my house phone know my cell phone is the house phone no telemarketing calls. Besides I'm not paying a monthly bill for something I don't use very much.

I've never done any telemarketing but I have to say I do find getting those calls annoying. They always seem to come when I'm in the middle of something that isn't easily dropped. But it has to be hard to be the telemarketer too because you are rarely welcomed.
