I never really liked when people used the x instead of Christ. I do like your logic though!

I also learned about the use of the Chi for Christ in my religion classes (at a Catholic school) when I was growing up (Chi and Rho being the first two letters in the Greek word for Christ). You can even see this as an expression of Christianity in many different pieces of religious art. For example, many churches have a Chi / Chi-Rho in a stained glass window. I always thought of this as a religious expression, and I was even surprised when I heard that some religious people were upset with its usage because it somehow demeaned Christ. So I personally don't mind this being used as a shorthand as I think it is a religious expression from a historical point of view.

The attached picture is of a stained glass window in the church of St. Ignatius of Loyola in San Francisco. Notice that it also includes an Alpha and an Omega on the sides of the Chi, symbolizing God... "For I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end" - Rev. 22:13 The alpha being the first letter and omega being the last letter of the Greek alphabet.

BjohnsonPP, Funny, I did not know when I wrote what I did that you are an atheist.  I wrote it because I HAVE seen it written that way by atheists who thought they were not writing Christ.  Personally, when I want to write the word, I write Christmas.  Again, I do not want to start a heated discussion between Atheists and Christians.  Been there, done that.  Do not wish to do it again, at least on Fusion Cash.

Sharing your opinion shouldn't be threatening to you.  I also have wondered where the "x" came from.  For me, Christmas is Christ, so I never abbreviate it.
