VIGILANTE JUSTICE
« on: June 04, 2009, 03:23:34 pm »
Recently, in Philidelphia, vigilante justice was dished out upon a man who viciously raped an 11yr old girl in an alley.  The neighborhood found the man before the police did and beat the crap out of him and held him until police arrived on the scene to arrest the accused.  He has since been identified by the victim and is still in the hospital recuperating from his 'injuries' (lucky dog).  Before they found this man, they found another man who resembles the perp and beat the crap out of him and held him until police arrived.  Later it was determined he was the wrong man.  He was released, but according to him, no apologies or recourse was given.  If it had been my daughter that had been raped, I probably (no, ain't no probably to it) would have done the same thing; beat the dog-*%$# (castration comes to mind too) out of the man too.  But what of the other man?  The one that was innocent?  His only crime was that he looked like the wrong guy. They could have killed him and it would have been the wrong man.  Vigilante justice cuts like a double-edged sword. What do you think? I'm trying to appease my conscious but I'm having a bad time w/this.  I really feel that the people were right.  Protect your neighborhood and children.  On the other hand, I do feel sorry for the man that was wrongly accused and got a beating for it.

I agree with you whole heartedly.  If it were any of my children, they wouln't have been in one piece when the police had arrived.  I feel for the other guy, he should get a public apology at least.  They should have been more careful.... but they did what needed to be done.  The good news is that guy will find out what it is like when he get in prision.  The other inmates look down on rapest. Hopefully that makes you feel a little better.
