I generally check my receipts before I leave the store, so it is unlikely that I would find the error after I got home. But regardless, I would definitely bring back the items, not keep them for free. I don't consider it theft, since it would be the cashier's mistake, not mine, but it would be dishonest to keep the items without making the store aware of the mistake.

I only really check the receipt if the total seems really off from what I would expect. Otherwise, I don't really look through the items on it. Sometimes I will look at a receipt and the codes they use make it really difficult to even know exactly what I bought during a trip especially is if a few days or more have passed. I would probably not notice it.

Okay, here's what this is.  Our store had a deal on any five packs of a good variety of meats for 20 bucks, so I picked up 10 packs.  Yep, it wasn't until I got home that I noticed that receipt.  It did say $20 meat deal.........$20.  But, I will have to admit, I did do the "Bonus" thing, but because I do not have a vehicle myself and a friend had taken me to do my grocery shopping.  Yep, I posted on here about it because it happened, I did the wrong thing, was already home and it did bother me, but, like I said, I had gone to the store in a friend's car. So, yep, lecture me...it's okay.

Hmm like others said I rarely ever check the receipt, but I usually watch the cashier closely scanning items making sure he/she doesn't scan an item twice and forget to.

;D I always check my reciept but I am normally really good about watching them scan everything and if doesnt....well....BONUS!!! I am litterally lol right now because it is true!!! I dont feel bad about a couple feebies or so every once in a while I mean they will throw stuff out because of the date and wont donate it to the homeless so if they arent quick enough to catch it then its a plus for me and too bad for them. If they dont like it then :bootyshake: is all i can do! just my opinion I pay plenty in cash every month for groceries anyway we have a huge family

Thank you, ssink1!  That was a good answer and I like the humorous way you put it.  I guess in a way I tend to agree because of inflated prices anyway.

yes but stores are real careful before arresting 80% of theft comes from employees usually the employee that is underring is already under surveilance and the customer that is shoplifting has made this mistake many times before

In reality, I think very few of us would actually go back to the store and insist on being charged. I think this would be a good question for a poll. I'm going to check to see if this site still allows them.

NO, an error is an error, it is not theft... I caught it after I got home, I went back to the store and the manager made the correction and refunded my CASH...
