This Mom wants to say...
« on: May 10, 2013, 06:15:18 am »
I overslept today.  I had my alarm set ... (3 of them in fact) And I dunno what happened but at 7:15 I woke up with the phone in my hand and jumped out of bed.  I yelled, "the kids are gonna miss the bus." They had 2 minutes to get out to the bus stop.  I panicked.  When I stepped out into the hallway I ran into my 6 year old.  Dressed, fed and hair brushed.  She was calm and cool as could be; heading to her room for her shoes.  My oldest daughter (soon to turn 15) woke her and her 13 year old brother up...fed her little sister...picked out her clothes and brushed her hair.  Am I a blessed mother or what?

Yes, you are blessed.  I have an alarm on my cellphone and an alarm set on my Kindle Fire.  They both go off at the same time.  The alarm on my Kindle Fire is loud, compared to my cellphone.  You were worried about your children missing the school bus, and the bus driver this morning was running late picking up my grandson.  I called to see where he was at 7:05 am.  At least your daughter had it together.  Thanks.

It sounds like you have very polite children and they are  respectful, there are some kids out there who are rude a like wild animals while the parent is shopping. My son is respectful in that way when he went to school Now he is an adult and he still respects me as his mother

You are and it all fell into place. When my oldest son was a teen, he would oversleep every day. One day I let him sleep and called the school and told them he would be late because he overslept, although he would try to pin it on me. Sure enough, he blamed me but never again was he late.

Kids can do more than you give them credit for.  At 15 and 13 they are fully capable of getting themselves ready for school without any assistance.  The six year old will need another two years or so before she is there.

I remember those days of getting 3 kids at 3 different schools out on time. My 15yr old daughter who is now 31 would take a 30minute shower making her late most of the time. I used to yell and scream but realized it wasn't working so I just let her get in trouble with her first period teacher.Anyway your story brought back a lot of memories.

I think a lot of us are guilty of doing things for our kids that they are perfectly capable of doing themselves.  You got a lesson this morning, they are responsible, so give them more responsibility for things.   You don't learn if you don't have to or get a little push.  Some of the letting go is harder for Mom to deal with than the kids!  LOL        Sounds like you have been doing a great job, look at the results so far!

Sounds like you raised good kids....My husband's kids would still be playing video games in their pajamas watching the kids walking to the bus stop out their window

Thank you to all who complimented me and my kids.  I certainly did learn a big lesson...and even though I don't wanna face it...reality is they are all growing up.  My older 2 had to get themselves up and out for school a couple of years ago when I was working full time at a wal-mart in the bakery.  Sometimes I had to get there early and other nights I was closing the place down so the kids adjusted to whatever schedule retail gave me.  When I took the stay home parent roll over again thought taking off from where I left would be fine.  My oldest ignored my efforts but my son settled in quite comfortably with being coddled.  At 13 now it's time he get over that.  To all you Mom's out there I hope you have a wonderful mother's day tomorrow.
