Never once heard of this happening here in New England. If it did, I would promptly find another doctor because that one there can't be all that caring or responsible! It doesn't matter if their payday comes via cash or insurance check, they're getting it either way, right? Any "professional" running a cash / personal check only business is really sketchy, in my book!

Some doctors don't accept some forms of insurance, but that's been the case everywhere throughout the years.

Also, the "Obamacare" jargon is conservative political mudslinging, seeing as the President did not propose the bill. Let's all rise above that.

Yes, I am so tired of the new healthcare laws being referred to as Obmamacare.  Something has to be done to change our healthcare industry, it should be less about profit and greed.  There needs to be a change in thinking, instead of always treating illnesses, we need to try to prevent them in the first place.  (depending on the type of illness)  Doctors get paid for ordering tests and prescribing drugs for patients etc.  This needs to change also.

This is the first time I'm hearing about this, I hope it's not true and it's just all rumors. Noone will really have all of that money to pay doctors up front. Then what will doctors do?

It is all very costly, The govt, should have put a cap on what the insurance co.'s charge a person. But it seems like all of them are out of sight now. and if you do get sick they raise it on you time and time again. I know my dads insurance has been raised 6 times in the last 2 years and before that he had not been sick. Our country cannot keep going the way it is. Seems like everything points to not treating anyone who is ill, and that includes mental also. And if they do get treated it takes everything they make to pay for it. Obamacare could be a good thing if they took out all of the pork that is in and used it strictly for health care. But that isn't going to happen. Also i don't like the idea of someone who is not in the medical field telling me wheater i can et treated when i am sick (like acorn) for christsake what do they now.

I have not heard of this trend until now. How many people can afford pay up front , Especially those with cronic Illness. Pretty soon the emergency rooms, that are stressed already, will have minimum waiting times of several hours.

Drs. have been complaining for years about slow payments from insurance companies but as the saying goes, they are cutting of there noses to save there faces.

I have one word for that Problem and one Solution.

The one word: OBAMACARE want me to spell it out ok: O-B-A-M-A-C-A-R-E  :P

The Solution sit down and write your Book! If you make just $ 1.00 per copy sold,

and you sell 1 Million copies well you do the Math even after you pay Uncle Obama

Ooops I meant to write Uncle Sam you still have a little bit left over. Good luck!!!

I have heard of it happening because insurance is such a pain to deal with.  But I haven't heard of it happening in great numbers or anything like that.

Partly its because no one knows what to expect when all the new laws (whatever you want to call them) take effect.

I dropped my insurance two years ago.  Now if I have to go to the doctor, I call them and tell them that the last time I was in with insurance they were paid $23 from the insurance company plus my $20 copay.   I ask if they are willing to take $50 cash up front for the same visit which will save them both payroll expense and having to wait to get paid.

On the other side of things, I have dropped four insurances this year alone, and I do offer a discount to the patients who want to continue coming to my office -then they can file for reimbursement from the insurance company themselves.
