I would never ask guests   in my home to remove their shoes  A good many of my friends do tho   Never thought of germs but think that's rather odd but then I'm a barefoot person and have survived for over 80 years    feet germs haven't gotten me yet

I normally take my shoes off when I enter someone's house (unless their house is very dirty), Otherwise, I automatically take my shoes off. When people visit me, yes they have to leave the shoes at the door, There is no need to wear them inside my place. my rug is clean, no spots, mud,,, I feel if people don't want to take them off, then they don't have to come to my house.

only a few times, but it was right after I got brandnew carpet, or my hardwood floors were just redone. But only for  about a month

Thankfully, the friends and family I have would be the first to bring up taking off their shoes if they were going to track in stuff.

I don't like it when people where there shoes in my home.  I think it's inconsiderate on a guests behalf to do so.  If I can see there shoes are noticeably muddy, wet, even snow covered I will ask them to remove there shoes.  My husband wears his shoes in our home and it drives me crazy.  Not crazy enough to say anything just crazy enough to cringe when I see him walking in and out of the house.

I have never requested that of a guest. However my Chinese neighbors always remove their shoes before entering my home.

It's not just with carpet.  Sure the carpet gets dirty and it visible, but the germs and dirt will get on any type of flooring.  The dirt even shows up more on hardwood floors.  Plus the wear and tear on hardwood floors just like carpet.  But, I've never asked someone to take their shoes off in my house and doubt I ever will.

That was never the policy at my house growing up, but I always made sure to respect that if someone else did that at their residence, even if I didn't exactly understand why.

No, but I know someone who does that, especially if they just came from outside and had muddy shoes or boots.
