You know what is real easy?
go get yourself some puff pastry or phyllo dough from the freezer section.
let it thaw.
open it up and pour your favorite pie filling down the center (a whole can may be to much), Going from corner to corner.
wet your fingers and get the edegs of the dough damp. Fold the dough over the pie filling. The wet edges will make it stick together. Cut a couple of slits in the top. Brush the top with wtare and cover with a generous amount of white sugar.
oh yeah, do all of this on some parchment paper that is already on your baking sheet. You wont be able to move it, while raw.
bake at 425 (I think) It should take about 15minutes to brown up. teh sugar will crystallize and it is very good.
You can make a quick glaze with powdered sugar and some milk keep mixing the stuff until you get the right consistency. Let the strudel cool a bit before glazing.
A nice side to that is taking some vanilla ice cream. let it soften. then wad up small ice ream *bleep*. roll them in your favorite cereal (doesn't plain corn flakes works good) then put them into the freezer to harden.
serve on a plate with a triangle of the strudel and drizzle honey over the top (perfect match for the vanilla / corn flakes along side of an apple strudel).
It should take about 10 minutes to make the *bleep*. 1-2 hours to re-firm. 10-15 minutes to make the strudel (make frosting while in the oven). 15 minutes to bake. 10 minutes to cool. 7 minutes to plate.
you can get fancy with the pastry dough, but i don't have pics and it would take to long to explain. Think the fringe on a lethare jacket. make those cuts on the sides of the dough starting about an inch from the pie filling. then fold each "fringe" back over each other to make a lattice.
anyways that was always my fall back for a fresh dessert with large group;s and little time to get prepared...it doesn't take much room in the kitchen, too, perfect for cold holiday meals.
